Dude was able to save Cheyenne from the group of thugs trying to take her life, but when the past comes back to haunt them both, sometimes having the knowledge and the desire isn't enough to beat the countdown of the clock.


REVIEW:

As usual, Protecting Cheyenne keeps the series interesting, and romantic at the same time. It also keeps up the writing style is familiar and comfortable as well as well done. Susan Stoker does not disappoint fans with the fifth book in the SEAL of Protection Series.

This book can be read as a standalone and this is easy to tell as there was a quick overview of each couples romance woven into the book. But at the same time it was a lot easier to get into the book because I've read the previous books in the series and so I was more invested in the characters.

The action wasn't constant and you might miss it a bit but at the same time it sets itself apart from the previous books. The only similarity is that there are bad guys that do get Cheyenne. But that and a bit of Cheyenne's personality is the only things that are similar to the other books.

Overall, Protecting Cheyenne compares well to the previous books in the SEAL of Protection series and I can't wait for more!

“You’re hot. I’m assuming you know this.” Cheyenne sounded like she was imparting some deep dark secret to him.

“Shy…” He didn’t disagree, but he didn’t agree either. She was extremely charming all drugged up. Dude shuddered to think about her actually driving in this condition.

“Seriously, you are. I don’t know why you’re here though. Did you lose a bet or something? Are your buddies around somewhere ready to bust out and laugh?”

“What?” Dude was getting pissed. Cheyenne couldn’t mean what it sounded like she meant.

“Yeah, no one who looks like you has ever taken a second look at me before. I’m just me. You’re…well…you’re sex on a stick.”

Dude didn’t even smile at her words. She had to be kidding him. “Hon…”

“No, really. I know I’m not a troll. I’m passable, I actually think I’ve got great calves, and I like my arms…at least I did before I had the hair completely ripped off of them. Let me tell you, I don’t think duct tape is gonna become the new fashion fad anytime soon. But I’m not the kind of woman you probably are with all the time. I bet chicks throw themselves at you. When you go out to the bar I bet you always leave with someone right? Oh shit! I bet you hang out with a gang of hotties don’t you? Jesus, You leave a wake of devastation behind you wherever you go, don’t you?”

Dude raised his right hand and covered Cheyenne’s mouth lightly. He didn’t know whether to be pissed at her assumptions, or to be flattered. When she stayed silent, and simply looked at him with wide eyes, he told her, “Cheyenne, first, there’s no fucking bet and I’m kinda pissed you’d even accuse me of something like that. I think you’re exquisite. Funny. Cute. Interesting. And there’s nowhere I’d rather be than right here, right now, with you. Second, yes, I have a group of friends and we hang out, but almost all of them are either married or in a serious relationship. We don’t leave a wake of anything behind us, because we only have eyes for our women.” Dude didn’t even stop to think about what he was saying, that he was suddenly including Cheyenne in his thoughts and words.

“I hope like hell when you wake up in the morning and the pain pills have worn off you’ll remember this conversation and want to hang out with me and my friends. You’re like them more than you know.”

Dude smiled at the look on Cheyenne’s face. She hadn’t picked her head up off the head rest, but watched him with serious eyes.

“But you’re perfect…” She mumbled the words around his hand and would’ve said more, but Dude interrupted her.

“I’m not even close to fucking perfect. I’m kinda a slob, I have a tendency to throw my shit on the floor until it annoys me too badly and I have to put it in the hamper. I have a temper, but I’d never raise my hand to you or any other woman. I’m controlling and like to be in charge. And…” Dude held up his left hand, reminding Cheyenne of his disfigurement. “Enough women have told me this is disgusting, or just plain gross, for me to think I’m anything but perfect.”

**Protecting Alabama is the 2nd book in the SEAL of Protection Series. It can be read as a stand-alone, but it’s recommended you read the books in order to get maximum enjoyment out of the series.

Review:

Protecting Alabama was different from Protecting Caroline. It`s not as heavy on physical action, most so emotional action. Which I found unique and while it didn`t necessarily have the same action packed feel, I almost enjoyed the emotional drama more(not sure if that makes me weird or not).

Alabama was a different character than one I usually appreciate. I notice I tend to go for the louder, larger than life characters, more so than the quieter characters. But Alabama was certainly a strong female while not being overly loud. I enjoyed that. I certainly identified more with her because of her quietness and I just enjoyed her character immensely. Especially as I got farther and farther into Protecting Alabama.

We also got a look into a different character on the team and while I appreciate him for his inability to deal well with people who lied, he did annoy me a bit. It was frustrating as I got farther and farther in the book only because of some of his actions.

There were some fun and easy moments. It was also fun to see Alabama come out of her shell. There were numerous times I wanted to smack at least one of the characters(I won’t tell you who), but there were also times you just wished that you could find guys like that.

Protecting Alabama is different from Protecting Caroline but at the same time it was a great read! If you’ve ever read anything by Susan Stoker or enjoy romance, than you will likely enjoy Protecting Alabama.

“I want to kiss you sweet. Will you let me?”

Alabama simply nodded. 

The hand at her cheek shifted to the back of her neck. He’d cupped her in a firm but strangely gentle grip and shifted closer to her. He’d rested his forehead against hers and just held her there for a moment. 

“I’ve been wanting to do this since you opened your door to me last week. You have no idea…”

Then he brought his other hand up to her face and cupped it. She was sandwiched between the hand at the back of her neck and the one on her face. She didn’t feel trapped, she felt protected. Christopher tilted her head just so and swooped in for his kiss. For some reason Alabama had thought he’d take it slow. Everything he’d done so far had been easy and gentle, but this kiss wasn’t either of those. 

It was a confident kiss, a kiss that demanded she open and let him in. And she did. Alabama didn’t hold back. Their lips met and immediately parted. She felt his tongue do an initial sweep of her mouth then retreat to tease and caress her lips before plunging back in. Alabama tried to keep up, swirling her tongue around his and at one point taking his tongue and sucking on it. She thought she’d feel awkward and uneasy, but she’d been so aroused she didn’t have time to be embarrassed or uneasy.

At that point Christopher took the hand that had been on her cheek and put it on her back and laid her down against the cushions of the couch. He kept his hand at her neck supporting her head as he eased her down. Alabama didn’t even notice…until she felt his hardness against her. He never stopped his sensual exploration of her mouth, but she could feel his strength over her. He wasn’t crushing her, in fact his body felt good pressing against hers. She could feel his length against her leg; he was hard, all over. 

Alabama breathed in through her nose and pressed her head back, breaking contact with his lips. Without missing a beat Christopher had leaned down and put his mouth against her neck, nipping and sucking lightly. Her breath came out in pants and she tried to get her brain to start working again. 

“Now that was a kiss,” she’d said breathlessly. She heard him chuckle against her throat before he moved up and nipped her earlobe. 

“You make me lose my mind, sweet.” 

One part of Alabama wanted to do nothing more than stand up and lead him to her small bed in the corner, but the other part of her was terrified. She’d trusted before and been let down. She didn’t think he’d break her trust, but she wasn’t certain yet. 

She’d brought her hands down from his back where she’d been clutching at him and put them on his chest. He’d immediately reared up so he could see her face. Of course that pushed his erection harder into her thigh, making her blush. He’d laughed and kissed her lightly on the nose. He sat them both up and brought her into his side. 

“Thank you Alabama, that was the best kiss I’ve ever had.”

When Caroline boarded the plane to Virginia to move across the country for her new job she never expected to be seated next to the hottest guy she’d ever seen. She also never expected he’d be so easy to talk to. She knew he’d never be interested in talking to her if he hadn’t been trapped in the seat next to her, but it was a nice way to spend a long plane ride.



Neither Wolf nor Caroline were prepared for a terrorist hijacking of their plane, but if Caroline thought that would be the last time she’d see, or need, Wolf, she’d be sorely mistaken.

Review: 

At first I wasn't sure if I would enjoy the writing style. I liked how the characters each had their own little introductions but it almost seemed awkward or odd to me? I'm not really sure how to describe it. But once I got past the introductions I enjoyed the writing style much more. There were few errors if any and that was really helpful as well.

I certainly enjoyed the character of Caroline. I did like Wolf and his boys but for me Caroline was my favorite. She was this woman who had no training besides the training necessary to be a chemist and yet she stood up to the terrorists, helped rather than hindered and didn't wait around uselessly for the guys to find her. She actively tried to help them and I just thought that she was a really well written character who anyone can enjoy.

I loved the relationships between all of the characters, not just Wolf and Caroline. They all adopted her and took her on as family even when Wolf wasn't necessarily thinking straight. I enjoyed that relationship she formed with each character and it certainly makes me interested in what will happen in the next books and if it will affect her relationship with the boys. 

The plot hit home a lot more now, even though it's been 13 years since 9/11. It certainly hit a lot harder than I think it might have if it hadn't already happened on such a large scale in a nearby country. 

Protecting Caroline was a great read, one that I enjoyed. The characters were my favorite although the plot was well written as well.

Wolf didn’t say anything, just did what he’d desired to do the first time he saw her in the room. He reached over and gathered her into his arms. She was stiff at first, then she melted into him. She smelled of some sort of flowers. Maybe it was her shampoo, maybe it was a lotion she used, but it went straight to his head. He tightened his arms around her and Caroline lost it. She cried. She cried for being scared on the plane, she cried for being hurt, she cried remembering how alone and scared she felt in her apartment when only a thin piece of plastic kept a killer from knowing she was in the bathroom, she cried in relief that Matthew was back from his mission. Matthew rocked her and held her tight. He wasn’t used to a woman’s tears, but there was no way he was letting her go.

Finally her tears dried up and she only sniffed here and there. Wolf drew back a bit and looked at her face. She wasn’t a “cute crier”—her face was red and blotchy. She refused to raise her eyes. Wolf rubbed her cheeks with his thumbs and then lifted her chin up so Caroline had to look at him. He didn’t say anything just leaned down and touched her lips with his. It wasn’t a passionate kiss, but it felt right. It was a comforting kiss. It was exactly what she needed from him at that moment.

He pulled back and looked into her eyes. “You’re safe now. I’ll do everything in my power to make sure you stay that way.”

Caroline believed him. He was an honest to God hero. And for the moment, he was her hero. She tipped her chin up, reaching again for his lips with hers.

The second she moved, he was there. Wolf had tried to hold back with her. She was feeling vulnerable and he didn’t want to take advantage of her. But with the first touch of her lips against him, he was lost.
