Justice for Corrie (Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes Book 3) by Susan Stoker

Date of Publication: March 8, 2016

Blurb

**Justice for Corrie is the 3rd book in the Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

Blind since birth, Corrie Madison relies on her other sharpened senses in her job as a chiropractor. Never did she imagine she'd have to depend on them to identify a killer. But when a man enters her practice, murdering everyone in his path, Corrie is the only witness—putting her directly in the killer's crosshairs.

Officer Quint Axton wasn't looking for love, or even a relationship, until he meets Corrie. Beautiful and brave, resilient and intelligent, she's everything Quint wants—if he can keep her alive long enough to explore their mutual attraction. The threats on Corrie's life are escalating. Surely a blind person is helpless against a ruthless killer?

Hardly. Corrie is about to prove that disabled does not equal defenseless.

Just as Corrie reached for the doorknob to see if she could find Shaun—he usually hung out in the makeshift break room toward the back of the clinic—she heard angry voices in the reception area, followed by a weird popping noise. She froze in her tracks and tilted her head to the side, trying to figure out what was going on.

It wasn't until she heard Cayley's scream cut short that Corrie figured out something horrible was happening.

Knowing better than to open her door and try to stop whatever was going on, Corrie stepped quickly away from the door and imagined her office layout in her head. As the popping noises and the screams continued—and got closer to her office—she frantically thought about where she could hide.

Her desk was large, and sat perpendicular to the doorway. She could walk from the door straight to the chair at her desk without having to swerve around any furniture. She kept her office purposely free of extraneous chairs and tables so she didn't have to worry about tripping over them. She could hide under the desk, but wasn't that where everyone always hid—and died doing it? If she was a crazy person hell-bent on killing everyone around her, that's the first place she'd look for stragglers who might be hiding.

The exam door down the hall was opened and Corrie heard Mr. Treadaway ask, "Who are you?" before the awful popping sound came again.

Knowing time was running out, the gunman would be at her office within moments, Corrie made the split-second decision to see if she could fit in the small area under the sink. There was no other place she could hide.

When she'd been hired, there hadn't been any extra space for her to have an office in the small clinic. A small break room had been converted for her, and the sink and cabinets still lined one wall. It would be a tight fit, an extremely tight fit, but Corrie didn't hesitate.

Hearing the unsteady gait of someone walking down the hall, Corrie raced over to the sink and opened the cabinet underneath. She shoved her butt in first and wiggled it around, knocking over a few odds and ends that were stored under there in the process. She drew her knees up as close to her chest as she could get them and sighed in relief as she realized she fit, barely. Her neck was bent down at an awkward angle and she couldn't breathe very well, but Corrie quickly, and quietly, closed one door, then the other, praying whoever was shooting wouldn't think to look under the sink for anyone.

At the same moment Corrie heard the soft click of the cabinet door to her hiding place engage with the small magnet that kept it shut, she heard her office door burst open.

Because Corrie was blind, her other senses had always been more acute than a sighted person's. She seemed to hear, smell, and taste what people with no disabilities couldn't. The man who'd entered her office walked straight to her desk. Corrie heard her desk chair being pulled away. Yup, he'd immediately checked under there to see if someone was hiding from him. She heard him walk to the small window and held her breath.

Like many other foundations, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation provides assistance to injured soldiers as well as their families. SOWF also focuses on one of the most important challenges those families face; 'getting to their hospitalized loved ones as quickly as possible'. With grants immediately provided to the family, they can travel to be bedside with their loved one, especially for those crucial first days. SOWF also provides a scholarship program, family services (including clinical social workers, scholarship counselors, and family services counselors). With on-going support and helpful counseling to all families of fallen members in every branch of the military, they are able to help in all the ways that count. The SOWF was highly recommended to me by a recent veteran who served in Iraq. Therefore, I am thrilled to be able to help them in any way possible. Every little bit counts.

excerpt
Grace moved closer, shifting her body so she could reach my face more easily. She ended up practically standing between my legs, brushing up against my injured one whenever she rinsed off the razor.
"Take a breath, Merrick. I haven't cut you. Not yet," she chuckled.
I breathed in her sweet scent, my head swimming with arousal. She had no idea what she was doing to me. All those months shaving with a tiny mirror stuck to the wall in my CHU had been frustrating as hell. I couldn't see shit in that thing. Now I very literally couldn't see shit and she was in front of me smelling like she did, being as gentle as she was, and all those memories didn't seem like such a horrible thing.
Because now I was experiencing something even more torturous.
She positioned the razor under my nose and expertly removed the coarse hair above my lip. What would she do if I just leaned in and devoured her mouth? Would I miss her lips completely or would she meet me halfway?
She gently turned my face and started on the other side. I didn't think having her shave my face would be this intimate. In fact, I was planning on it being annoying as hell since I thought she wouldn't really know what she was doing. Asking my mother had been an option, but I didn't want her leaving Mitch either.
"Almost there. You need a haircut, too." Her voice was rough and sexy, and I had to hold back a groan when it sent blood rushing straight to my groin. "I can style it for you so it stays out of your face, but I'm no good with cutting hair."
"That sounds good," I replied. God, if she didn't finish soon, I was going to do something stupid.
She raised my chin and carefully shaved my neck. When her fingers stroked my skin to check for any areas she missed, I swallowed thickly and lost the battle completely.
My injured and stiff hand found her wrist, slowly pulling the razor away from my skin. Her gasp sent my semi-erection shooting straight up to painfully hard. The skin of her wrist was like silk under my fingers, the tiny bones so fragile. I worried that if I was too insistent, I would hurt her with just a touch.
"Merrick?" she breathed, her sweet breath caressing my chin.
"Grace ..."
I felt her racing pulse under my fingers and pulled her forward until I could feel the heat of her face so close to mine. I raised my other hand to her waist and made a cautious path up, until I gripped the back of her neck. She didn't struggle or protest, and I hoped her accelerated breaths were telling me that she was feeling the same intense pull I was.
My dry throat finally found the strength to speak, even if it was just a whisper. "I would give anything to be able to see you right now." I pulled her face closer, until the tip of her nose touched mine. The sound of the razor falling to the floor, briefly registered in my mind.
Bio
I live in Morgan, Utah with my husband, beautiful daughter, and a couple of spoiled pups. If I'm not deeply involved in writing my next book, then I'm probably reading in the safety and quiet of my closet. I love yoga – which I now practice regularly – playing hide and seek with my daughter (only to have my hiding spots revealed by one of the pups), and I love Fruit by the Foot, Twizzlers and Peace Tea. These are great ways to bribe me into revealing secrets about what's to come.
I have an unhealthy obsession with Supernatural, The Walking Dead, and The Big Bang Theory. I also enjoy talking about them, so if you like them, too, come find me.
Writing has become an enormous part of my life and every book I write holds a special place in my heart. If you read one of my books, I hope you have the same experience.

Shyloh and Alex Morgan, Authors of Chasing Midnight and Claiming Midnight

Quinn Mason is a young Southern gentleman. Perhaps, gentleman is a stretch for how he lived his earlier years. He was the kid whose life seemed charmed, a popular athlete in high school who won a full scholarship. Life was on track for him until the death of his parents. In one terrible moment, Quinn went from having everything being everything for his young siblings. He left college, and used the money from his parent’s life insurance policy to buy a bar. The bar supported him and the kids, affording him the ability to give for them the life they were robbed of, even sending them to college.

Mhisery Bellemy has returned to Midnight, reluctantly. Her mother died, and she is left to take care of her drunken father, and the family cafe´. She had escaped the small town’s clutches as soon as she was of age, and swore never to return. Now, her siblings have turned to her, leaning heavily on her for help. The woman who got out of town and made a life she loves is now forced, by the bonds of family, and the weight of obligation, to return and give up what she had worked to build for herself.

These two are unlikely to cross paths, but chance throws them into the right place at the right time. Quinn’s brother is the catalyst that brings Mhisery into Quinn’s line of sight. And that’s all it took, one look and he knows he has to have her. The golden boy athlete is now drawn to the tall, tattooed woman stepping off the last bus into town.

Will Quinn ever have the woman he desires, and make her his own, or will she return to the life she loves far away from the small town of Midnight, and Quinn, or will she stay and make a life with the man she loves?

Chasing Midnight tells a story of love, friendship, and sacrifice. This talented duo, Shyloh & Alex Morgan, will rip your heart out and have you falling in love with the inhabitants of this quaint, quirky, town. Welcome to southern seduction, and the town of Midnight, where the Darkest Desires of Dixie become a reality.
Second Book in the series, Claiming Midnight:
Clayton Carter is a small town sheriff with a haunting past. He watched his brother murder his father when he was only fifteen. He escaped an alcoholic mother when he went to live his affluent aunt and uncle where he overcome his childhood tragedies to become a respected member of the community. Even though, some scars heal on the outside, they still remain on the soul and can affect every aspect of a person's life. His life was so chaotic as a child, now Clay has to have absolute control. He walks a very gray line between the black-and-white world of law enforcement.
Isabella was an extremely sheltered child who grew into a naive woman. A childhood catastrophe caused her parents to be exceedingly overprotective. Her grandmother bestowed the family bakery to her with hopes Isabella would learn to live — not just exist.
When an arsonist threatens Midnight, Clay is determined to solve the case and keep the residents of his hamlet safe. While questioning some of the locals, he meets Isabella. He has seen her a million times in the bakery but never noticed her. Clay is battling rumors in the town concerning his sexuality and decides Isabella could be a good cover. Clay only dates women outside of Midnight so no one will ever find out his fetishes run to the darker side.
While using Isabella as a cover, he begins to notice the woman beneath the frumpy clothes, and guileless outlook on life. Isabella begins to discover the heart of a man who only shows coldness to the outside world. When the arsonist targets Isabella, Clay has to fight his inner demons and face his feelings for her, all while trying to catch the fire-bug plaguing Midnight. As Isabella becomes more disenchanted can she and Clay find a common ground between his controlling nature and her new-found autonomy?

Authors:
Shyloh and Alex Morgan are a duet of authors who have written together for years. Both come from large families steeped in alpha males. Growing up in this environment allows them to truly grasp varying personalities and create a world of seduction that will completely consume a reader once they find them in a world the two have created.

Shyloh was born and raised in the south, and is a published author in her own right, with multiple titles to her credit. She comes from a large family in which she was the only female among all her brothers and cousins. She has a background in medicine working as a registered nurse before turning her attention to writing. She has several awards to her credit before she started embarking on this journey with Alex where have started showing readers that there is more than steamy weather in the south.

Alex was raised in a similar family and was surrounded by alpha males, giving them a unique understanding of various male personalities. Alex's ability to turn a phrase and make, not only the reader, but the leading female in the novel swoon, has given readers a true glimpse into southern charm, as well as, southern seduction.

Both reside in the rural south currently, and enjoy spending time with their family and friends while they each participate in the running of their individual family farms. They each love horse riding, quiet nights beneath the stars with a cold drink, and general country life. But when the two authors collide and collaborate they create a world in which demons, humans, shifters, and vampires alike take the reader on the emotional ride of a life time.

Their characters show various strong personalities, while demonstrating the inner turmoil that is faced within the plot. They are skilled at creating characters that are multifaceted, making the reader explore the range of emotion that each character feels. Welcome to the worlds of their creation where the men are strong, powerful, charming, funny, and perfectly imperfect. Where the women are strong of will and heart, with a determination to rival any the reader has ever read.

Welcome to the worlds of Shyloh and Alex Morgan.

The Marriage Agenda Blitz!

The Marriage Agenda by Sarah Ballance
Contemporary Romance
Date Published: August 18, 2014

 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

There's a scandal brewing in Washington...

Knox Hamilton wants his father’s recently vacated Senate seat, but the only way his conservative constituents are going to vote for Knox is if he loses his playboy reputation. Which means Knox needs a wife. There’s only one woman with whom he's willing to share his life, but after the way he broke things off with her, will she give him another chance?

Chloe Lochlan's job is on the line. If she doesn't grab a big headline, she'll be ousted from her gig at the major newspaper where she works as a reporter. Knox's offer of marriage chills her to the bone. He already crushed her heart once and she has no intention of letting it happen again. But being with him gives her the kind of access to top tier social events rarely granted to media, access that could land her the story of a lifetime. When the truth she uncovers threatens to destroy the man she still loves, will she bury the story...or his career?

EXCERPT

As she stood alone in the bar, second thoughts closed in. No one had approached claiming to be her date. Had he taken one look at her and left? Patience—and nerve—waning, Chloe scoured the room, hoping for a sign she should leave. And she found one. A big one.

Watching her intently from a corner table was her ex-everything. And in spite of a strict never-again policy for all things Knox Hamilton, her body melted in traitorous anticipation. His trademark bedroom-tousled hair, the same luscious brown hue as those smoldering eyes, did little to kill the energy coursing through her at the speed of orgasm. Her knees weakened, further threatening her unsteady perch on the stilts a salesclerk had tried to pass off as a wardrobe staple.

Chloe stared at Knox, an uneasy feeling crawling through her chest.

All her synapses fired “flee,” but her GPS was off. Her attempt at escape landed her at the corner of his table, where she nearly collided with a waiter setting something in front of Knox that was suspiciously akin to Chloe’s favorite drink, a strawberry daiquiri. Though the beverage seemed to confirm her suspicions, she eyed the glass with a touch of misplaced jealousy. It wouldn’t surprise her if he had a date. Well-known and filthy rich, up-and-coming politico Knox Hamilton had everything, including his pick of eligible women.

“Chloe.” He drawled her name, adding a seductive syllable or two. “You look amazing.”

Her mouth watered at the sound of his voice. “Hi.” Her voice squeaked with a less-than-dexterous reply.

He grinned. “It’s been too long. Have a seat.”

She eyed the daiquiri. “Actually, I have a date. As do you, it seems.”

His gaze met hers over the deep amber mouth of his beer bottle. “I ordered that drink for you.” The words simmered with the husky promise of the bedroom, slipping from his lips with an odd amount of reckless, deliberate ease.

Entranced, she caught herself staring at his mouth.

He leaned back in his chair, giving her a good, long look at the way his torso shaped his neatly buttoned and pressed shirt. “Will you join me?”

He had no right to look so good. She swallowed, getting a full taste of memories she’d sooner forget. “My date—”

“—is one unlucky bastard tonight. That is, of course, if you’ll sit.”

If she was smart, she’d give Knox a view of her amazing legs and phenomenal ass as she teetered out of the bar on those damned stripper heels. But curiosity would make a dead cat out of her yet.
