Face-off At the Alter by Toni Aleo Release Blitz!

Markus Reeves is sucking. Big-time. Toiling away on a minor-league hockey team hundreds of miles away from home, he's watching his dreams of an NHL career fade away. Add in the lingering guilt he has over the dramatic demise of his relationship with college girlfriend, Mekena, and he's a mess on and off the ice.

But the family of his heart, the Sinclairs, won't let Markus suffer any longer. When he arrives himself back in Nashville for a trial run on the Assassins, it feels like his life may be making a turn for the better. If only he could get Mekena to forgive him...

Mekena Preston has been hurting since fleeing Nashville following the horror of Markus's betrayal with her sister. Now a professional photographer, Mekena finds herself in the same place at the same time with Markus to celebrate Lucy and Benji Paxton's wedding. Neither of them has been able to move on—and they're starting to wonder if they really want to.

They're headed for a face-off at the altar unless they can confront their past and unearth the truth about what really happened on that fateful night.

Watching as Elli crossed the ice, saying hi to everyone she passed, Mekena knew she had to go. Standing, she wobbled a lot, but she still made it to the entry to the ice. She could do this. It wasn’t that hard. Just like walking—on water. No big deal.
Oh, God, she was going to die, and everyone was going to see it.
Swallowing hard, she stepped out on the ice and figured she could ride the side of the boards to him. Elli was already there, gushing over the kids and kissing all over the guy Mekena assumed was her nephew. And holy hot genes. Dark hair, bright blue eyes, and a jawbone that could slice the ice. He was beautiful, just like his uncle and his momma. Tall, too, and thick. Obviously a hockey player. That should have given her a little more confidence to skate over there, but instead, her fingers dug into the siding as she slowly made her way toward them.
When Elli looked up, Mekena let go of the sides and waved. “I’m a little slow. I’m coming!”
Elli said something to Ryan, whose eyes lit up when he looked over at her. As he detangled himself from the kids that were trying to climb him like a wall, she figured he was coming to help.
Oh, no, that was embarrassing.
No, she could skate. She had it!
Letting go of the siding, she went with ease. And at first, things were good. She was skating! But as well as it was going, it suddenly went very bad. She felt her knee bend funny and then her body start to fall. And as the ice came into view, she let out a cry, waiting for the ice to break not only her glasses but her nose too. Maybe her teeth.
But she didn’t fall.
No, instead, someone had her by her hips, pulling her up and to her feet.
“Whoa there, girlie. I thought you knew what you were doing?”
Markus.
Everything inside her went hot. Not from embarrassment but from pure, burning desire. Trying to catch her breath, she looked up at him, his eyes so dark, his mouth so close to her cheek as he smiled.
Crap. Crap on a cracker.
“Markus.”
“Yup, it’s me,” he said, grinning as he stood her on her feet. “Saving your life.”

Review
Face-off at the Alter was a marvelous story. At first I had very little sympathy for Markus as the whole cheating thing did not really appeal but as I read through the story and found out more as well as being exposed to Markus' thoughts and feelings, he certainly made me like him.

Makena was hurt and for good reason which made her chapters very interesting as you see her thought process throughout this very confusing situation. Her aunt certainly added some spice but at times could be abrasive but that didn't put me off her as much as I thought it might.

Following the plot was easy and interesting although at times it was painful. Toni Aleo has certain chosen an issue that many have not brought up in todays society and I applaud her for it.

Face-off at the Alter was a great read and I enjoyed it so much! I love the Assassins' sense of family and cannot wait to get more of their stories, especially as the team evolves.

My name is Toni Aleo and I’m a total dork.
I am a wife, mother of two and a bulldog, and also a hopeless romantic.
I am the biggest Shea Weber fan ever, and can be found during hockey season with my nose pressed against the Bridgestone Arena’s glass, watching my Nashville Predators play!
When my nose isn’t pressed against the glass, I enjoy going to my husband and son’s hockey games, my daughter’s dance competition, hanging with my best friends, taking pictures, scrapbooking, and reading the latest romance novel.
I have a slight Disney and Harry Potter obsession, I love things that sparkle, I love the color pink, I might have been a Disney Princess in a past life… probably Belle.
… and did I mention I love hockey?

The Dark Ones by Rachel Van Dyken Release Day!

To touch a Dark One is death.

To talk to an immortal is suicide.
Yet, I've been marked by both.
A Vampire.
And the King of the immortals.
My life is no longer my own.
And now I know the truth, my life was never mine to begin
with.
It was theirs.
It's always been theirs.

EXCERPT

I didn't open my eyes.
"No staying in bed all day?"
"About
that…" Ethan sighed. "The good news is it will feel like we've been
in bed for days when really it could have been mere hours."
"Hmm?" I
perked up. "Well, that's a nice trick."
"I'm full of
them." His eyes sparkled. "Care to know more?"
"Yes," I
whispered, my mouth finding his.
With a groan, he
pushed me back against the mattress and loomed over me, his naked body
glorious-looking against the sunlight streaming through the window.
"Perhaps we'll stay a bit longer."
"Yes." I
nodded my head eagerly. "I'm your mate, after all. Don't you want me to be
pleased?"
"You were pleased
at least four times last night, possibly five, if we count the time I—"
"Shh." I put
my hands over his mouth.
He smirked.
"Afraid the dust will hear?"
I rolled my eyes.
"Ethan!"
Alex's voice boomed on the other side of the door. "Feed her!"
"Ignore
him," Ethan hissed.
The knock got louder.
"For the love of God, she's human. Give her food."
"He's a siren. He
knows nothing." Ethan continued kissing me.
"Mason will break
down the door if he has to." Fighting broke out in the hall. "Ethan,
I can smell the sex from here. One immortal to another, feed her before you
can't feed from her anymore."
Ethan growled and
pulled back from me. "They have no manners."
I was half-tempted to
cover my face with my hands. Had they heard us? Of course they'd heard us, and
they knew, and they could… Yeah, I wanted to crawl under the bed and hide for a
few days. Instead, Ethan pounced from the bed, put on a pair of jeans, and
jerked open the door while I tried to hide beneath the covers.
Alex peered over
Ethan's shoulder and waved.
I had no choice but to
wave back and hope that I wasn't as red as I felt.
"She's
alive." Alex held up his hand for a high five. "No? Not funny? Too
soon?"
"Horrible
joke," Mason said next to him. "I made eggs. She's going to need
food. Make her eat everything on the plate and—"
He was still talking
when Ethan slammed the door in his face and brought a giant plate of food over
to me.
"Forgive
them." Ethan scowled. "There aren't typically secrets between us, and
they're just concerned for you."
I pointed at the eggs,
ten slices of bacon, and toast. "Clearly, they don't want me to
starve."
"Wolves."
Ethan looked heavenward. "He should be more concerned with his own diet,
the ass."
"It does smell
good." I moved up the bed so I could lean against the headboard. "Do
you eat?"
Ethan's lips curved
into a predatory smile. "I ate several times last night. Care for me to
refresh your memory?"
My cheeks burned.
"So tempting."
He reached for a piece of bacon and held it to his lips, taking a small bite
that had my entire body clenching to keep from reaching out and attacking him.
"And yes, I can eat. I typically do eat but haven't been because when we
drink, we don't need normal food."
"But before
me…" I grabbed a piece of toast. "You were eating normal food."
"I like you
better." He winked. "But yes, I was."
"Good to know I'm
better than bacon."
"Your
taste…" His eyes brightened. "…is unlike anything I've ever
had."
"Hmm…" I
licked my lips.
"Stop it,"
he hissed and looked away. "Damn, I can't watch you eat. I'm going to
shower while you eat your entire plate as per Mason's orders, and then I'll
contemplate letting you leave this room so you can go to the bookstore."
"Ah!" I almost
knocked over the food. "My job! Am I late? Will I get fired?"
Ethan burst out
laughing. "It's eight in the morning. He's expecting you when I drop you
off. No sooner, no later. You won't get fired. He wouldn't dream of it, and you
really are adorable."
"And hot." I
sighed.
"That too."
"No, I mean hot,
as in, it's scorching in here."
Ethan winced.
"You may be that way for a few days."
"Hot?"
He nodded.
"Why?"
"Too much vampire
blood makes you overheat a bit." He shrugged. "It won't turn you—
You're very much human, like I've said before, but sometimes the vampire blood
causes a type of burn to take over in your bloodstream, not painful, just not
exactly pleasant if it's a hundred degrees outside."
"Good thing it's
Seattle." I bit into the toast.
"Yes, well, I
imagine at this point, raindrops would simply turn to vapor if they landed on
your skin."
I smiled.
"Shower." He
nodded. "I'm going to turn around now and walk away."
"Narrating?"
"Apparently,
that's what I do when I can think of nothing more than ripping that sheet from
your body, slamming you into the nearest wall, and possessing you all over
again."
I dropped the toast.
He growled, taking two
steps toward me, then swore and turned back around.
"Have a good
shower!" I called.
Another growl was his
answer, and then his jeans went flying. I wasn't laughing anymore.

Excerpt

Jordie Thomas knew he was screwed.
There were two things that he didn’t want, ever, in his life.
Herpes, and to be called into Elli Adler’s office.
Everyone knew that it wasn’t good to be called into the office of the owner of the professional hockey team he played for, the Nashville Assassins. If it was something good, usually she just called to chitchat, as she called it, and dote on her players. But when she called them into her office, ten out of ten times, they were screwed.
And today, Jordie must be screwed.
As his good leg bounced from the nerves, Jordie waited for the door to open to Elli’s office. His shoulders were taut, his other knee ached, and his heart was pounding. Ever since he got the call that she wanted him to fly from Colorado to Nashville for a meeting, he had been replaying every single scenario in his head. He hadn’t been making the greatest decisions lately, and he was pretty damn sure this had to do with his spur-of-the-moment vacation to Louisiana.
He should have just stayed home.
That whole trip was a clusterfuck. That’s the only way he could describe it. He hadn’t acted like himself, he kept trying to forget a certain someone, and he really should have just stayed home and healed. Not only had it pushed him back a week in PT but now he was worried that something he did there may be back to haunt him. As he replayed the weekend, which consisted of a lot of alcohol, a lot of women, and a good long visit in the ER that resulted in even more great sex, he couldn’t find anything out of the ordinary that could have brought him here. Then again, Elli didn’t like when her players’ whore-like tendencies hung out, but still, she usually called and warned them to clean it up.
Hell, he had gotten that call plenty of times. Maybe that’s why he was here? She was done with his ways? Damn it. Hopefully, that wasn’t it though. He was on the road to recovery after a really nasty hit into the boards last year, and nothing was going to keep him off the ice.
Well, except Elli Adler, that is.

In tennis, as in life, nothing ever goes truly to plan.

Samantha and Annie Callahan are successful doubles champions — the toast of the Olympics, Wimbledon, and Flushing Meadow.

But their winning partnership spirals out of control when Annie’s new boyfriend announces their engagement at the Australian Open in Melbourne.

Bear, the sisters’ coach, guides Annie as much as she’ll allow. But when she insists on dropping Samantha in favour of a singles career, her game and rankings plummet.

Samantha is left floundering. Disillusioned, her only sweet spot is the growing passion between her and Bear.

Amidst rising anger and betrayal, Samantha completely changes both their destinies when she does the unthinkable after a devastating Wimbledon loss.

The sisters are driven to create new lives by confronting the past and taking control of the present.

But can Samantha and Annie both win?

Description from Goodreads

REVIEW:

The two sisters were certainly different, each had their different strengths and weaknesses. I don't think there was ever a time you felt that you needed to choose between the two or that either of them had a better point than the other. They were just at different points of their lives.

I don't think I was ever really lost while reading this book, except maybe on occasion when the tennis things got too technical but I don't think that happened more than once or twice at the most.

There were certainly several shockers that you might not be able to predict and these certainly helped to make the book a little more interesting, more so than watching the drama and intrigue of Samantha's life as well as what you know of Annie's.

Lisa Heidke has created a good, strong novel that follows the story of Samantha and Annie.

     “What? Scared I’ll get
my feelings hurt?”

“You don’t have
feelings, Jordie. You’re allergic to them,” she said simply, her hand digging
deeper into his skin.
He smiled, covering the
grimace that was surfacing. She did her job great, but she had always been a
little rough. “That’s not true. I have feelings for you.”
She paused and looked up
at him. “Wanting to fuck me may be a feeling but not the feelings I want.”

Tainted Kiss Excerpt:

Wake up.
He always told her to wake up. The male voice was always light, almost teasing as it cut into the sluggish images that chased across her mind, disturbing them in a way that was surprising and wonderful. Wake up. But in his deep voice there was also a need. Not urgent, but…something different.
He wanted her to wake up. To join him. There was a tenderness in his voice that made no sense. Was she dreaming? This man, her leader, wasn’t patient.
Her thoughts were muddled, a jumble of questions and darkness. Certain voices echoed in her head now and then. Voices of people who loved her. Nearby and hushed. His voice, always, talking to her.
“Wake up. Now.”
Wait. This time, she heard it in her ears as well as her foggy brain. Ria forced heavy eyes open.
Bright lights. His huge body near her. Her left hand, impossibly warm…held in his?
He’s here. And his head was lowered over their hands.
Soft words whispered…what had he said?
What was happening? Am I dead? Something amazing and peaceful surrounded her inside and out, a feeling of belonging and…and rightness. And it had to do with him.
Abruptly his fingers tightened on hers, the trace of softness gone.
Powerless to do anything but stare, she was transfixed by his dark hair and impossibly wide shoulders. So she caught every nuance in his eyes when he lifted his head and started to push up from his chair.
She caught the resigned look of tenderness that flickered when he first looked up.
She caught the slice of absolute shock when he met her open eyes.
She caught the genuine smile he gave her. Gods, he rarely smiled. She tried to smile too, couldn’t help it. He looked like a warrior god created just for her. If this were a dream, she wanted to live here forever. Stay.
He was getting up.
No! “St—” Her voice was barely a whisper, cracking through the dry tissues of her throat. Did he even hear her?
Dark eyes wide, he leaned closer. Brooding, big, a swift protective presence. “Ria! Holy gods. Can you hear me?”
She nodded and opened her mouth to try to say more.
“Don’t try to talk yet.” He still held her hand in his much larger ones, concern and wonder on his handsome face.
Arawn.
His name burst like a firework in her mind. The Lash demons’ uncompromising Commander. His voice was the one that had cajoled her and ordered her to wake up.
She didn’t know why he was here, or why she was here for that matter. All she knew was this huge, lethal man was one hundred percent focused on her. He almost always looked ready to tear something apart, rarely cracking a smile.
But now, the grin he wore would have brought her to her knees, if she hadn’t already been in a bed.
And why, exactly, was she in bed? She glanced around, taking in the pale green walls. This wasn’t her room. She didn’t have a painting of the black sand beach of Tarsa on her wall. “Where am I?” Her voice rasped over the words.
“Already ignoring that I told you not to talk.” But his eyes twinkled. “You’re in the medical wing. Gods, it’s good to see you in the realm of the living.” He pulled out his phone and dialed. “Ashina. Get in here. She’s awake.”
Ashina…Ria knew that name. The healer. “What do you mean, the realm of the living?”
“You decided to take a month off.” He spoke wryly, but that grin remained in place. “And you didn’t request permission.”
