In Fire Sign by M.A. Petterson, the author creates descriptive scenes that are succinct but very well done. I could honestly see the scenes playing out in front of me and it wasn't hard to understand what was happening as things were explained in terms that were easily understood. 

There was a unique style of writing that almost seemed as if there was some kind of narrator in the background, telling the story as it played out in front of you. 

Trying to figure out the main character as well as who is behind the church fires keeps things jumping and the narration is interesting, allowing readers to dive right in and finish Fire Sign quickly.

At first I thought this book would be interested but not as interesting as I did. Mostly because I thought that the story between Erin and Zander was pretty cut and dry. Basically High School Sweethearts had a bad break-up. But as I started reading, I found things were far from cut and dry. I loved being able to read the book and see flashbacks they would get from the past and watch them realize that maybe those actions hadn’t been the best. It was amazing to watch their growth throughout the book.

The chapters are split between Zander and Erin. Both characters give us different insights into both their pasts and their present situation. I did enjoy it. But sometimes I wished that there was a bit more mystery about at least one of their thoughts.

The description of Zander was mouth watering. I could imagine what he looked like and….ugh, he looked amazing in my mind. I loved the descriptions that were incorporated throughout the book. They were detailed enough to give you a concrete image in your mind.

Excerpt 3: You're Stuck with Me Now

Part of what made Zander such a special hero for me to write is that he makes no apologies for his manner—he’s tough and borderline surly, but he gets things done. For him, that’s what’s important. Now he’s beginning to learn that there are secrets that Erin has been keeping from him for a lot longer than he ever thought possible, and he’s determined to find out more.

Zander liked to pride himself on the looks he got from most women, but the shock in Erin’s eyes trumped all of them and then some. He’d been right. She’d been holding out on him. “So what’s it going to be, Erin?” he asked. “You gonna level with me, or you really want me to walk away?”

She recovered, lifting her chin. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Uh, uh, uh,” he said. “Spill. And remember, with me, you get your parents back, and yourself, in one piece. He shrugged again. “What haven’t you told me?”

“Fine,” she snapped. “You want to know what else? I’ll tell you. It’s not my mom and dad down there. I don’t know my dad. I never knew him.” Her face was red with . . . what? Anger? Embarrassment? But she pushed on. “It’s just my mom’s boyfriend, some guy named Mike who I’ve never even met before. That’s who I get to go bail out.” She shook her head. “You know what, screw this. Loving You is Easy by Wendy S. Marcus

Brooke is the perfect politician’s daughter, always looking out for her father’s political aspirations, even when it’s not easy. Shane is a blue-collared soldier who’s got his GED and when he’s injured feels as if he has little to offer Brooke. Especially when he’s done nothing but cause her problems by having private photos of Brooke leaked. Now he’s trying his best to fix things but Brooke is hurt, and she wants nothing more than to ignore him. But Shane can help her, he’s just got to convince her of that. I honestly didn’t expect to see any of the letters between the two, much less the two that started their whole relationship. So that was a pleasant surprise. Especially because we got to see how they each see themselves. As well as getting to see a different style of writing. And the letters also allowed us to see how their relationship started and why.

I could honestly empathize with Brooke but didn’t feel her emotions as strongly as I’ve felt character’s emotions in other books. But it was still good to see her realistic, emotional reactions. Although I think she should have given Shane a bit more of a hard time.

We’re also given Shane’s point of view, which is extremely helpful to understand him as a character and why he can be a grouch or insisting on keeping the relationship between Brooke and he strictly away from the boyfriend/girlfriend position. It allows us to understand this reasoning and I don’t know about him but I was definitely calling him every name in the book for his decision and his reasoning. I feel that Shane was much more alive to me. The author clearly gives him several things that soldiers may deal with after coming home, especially injured, not that I know much more than what I’ve read or seen in movies or on tv. But it seemed like she kept things in line with those portrayals I’ve seen or read.

I felt a real frustration with Brooke’s parents, more so Brooke’s mother after we actually get some face time with her father. And throughout the book I felt some frustration, annoyance at the stupidity of some characters *cough cough* Shane as well as pride. While I don’t feel like I fully immersed into Loving You is Easy, I feel as if I got close to that level.

The ending was beautiful and I loved it. I feel like Wendy S. Marcus really hit it out of the park with the ending and it really brought things together nicely.

While Loving You is Easy was a good read, I didn't feel as if I could enter the book as easily or as deeply as some books I've read. It’s definitely a good read and one that deserves a chance at least. Loving You is Easy released December 9th, 2014.

Black Moon Draw by Lizzy Ford

A reader brought into a book world-literally. And when she arrives, it's to find that the book world isn't always the best world. Especially when that world becomes more and more real while it seems her world falls away. Naia finds herself in a world where everything is very different from her world. Fighting wars and falling in love weren't in her plan when she awoke in this world but she find herself doing both anyway. But will she give up her world for his? I really connected with Naia and her love of books. Especially how she uses them to escape and she was a really good character even if you felt like shaking her and telling her to wake up and stop being in denial. 

I don't tend to read a lot of fantasy but I enjoyed the world that Lizzy Ford created. It was interesting and learning all the little things about it was a wonderful experience. But I do have to admit that I hate the politics of the thing. But that's just my personal opinion, I'm not a big fan of politics and plots.

Then there was the fact that we get different perspectives, from the two main characters. This allowed readers to get a glimpse at both ways of thinking and find out that maybe everyone isn't always how they seemed. It was invigorating and an amazing journey.

This book had me in pain(all emotional) and also smiling largely. I enjoyed reading it and found myself sneaking away every chance I could to read it.

I liked Black Moon Draw a lot and it had an intriguing plot that sometimes I wish was real. So take a chance and read this fantasy book!

Basilisk's Creed Omnibus by Eme Strife

I'm gonna get what I didn't really like or thought needed work out of the way before jumping into the great things about this book. One thing that I occasionally noticed(more like once in a blue moon) is that while the writing was good for the most part, there were occasional spots where things were choppy or word choice could have been better. But for the most part everything worked, you could read without being suddenly jolted out of the book(unless your phone went off or your alarm). 

We get perspective from both Matt's and Eli's perspectives and occasionally there's overlap between the two. While the dialogue would be repetitive(although we don't really see this as Eme Strife doesn't really include that much of the dialogue in the second perspective) it was a completely different view on the same event. It definitely made you think and allowed you a chance to see why someone was acting how they were. Which kept things moving for sure!

Another thing I liked but also didn't like about The Basilisk's Creed Omnibus is that there were a lot of questions that kept popping up. If you'd get an answer you'd just find a new question. While it was fun and I liked that, I also don't like that? Mostly because I can be curious but than sometimes I'm just like no, I don't want to be. But if you really like having questions that seem to just keep coming than this is definitely your book.
