I'm going to apologize in advance for any spelling errors or crazy gifs or anything of the sort. But I still have tears pouring down my face and my thoughts are bouncing around crazily. And maybe that's a good thing. Because this book truly is a must read, even if it hurts. It's one of those things that while it hurts you also feel better for having read it.

Within the first hundred pages you know that something is wrong with Charley and that you won't have an HEA, just by the little clues that are being dropped. But by that time, the characters have become much like friends and you can't just bring yourself to let them know even if you know it will lead to heartbreak.

The beautiful moments that were experienced in this moment. Just wow, that was amazing. And the writing in general, the ways we were introduced to characters, the plotline, and again those small hints that add up to this one terrible outcome.

I'm sorry, but I literally don't think I can say anything more than the fact that this is an amazing book ,and even though you'll experience pain it is so worth it!

“She’s been missing him a lot lately.”



Julia’s voice is barely a whisper and my chest constricts. Our conversations don’t normally make it to discussing Gage unless we’re already arguing. The fact that she just brought it up shocks me and I’m not comfortable with it. I don’t know how to take it. I feel my jaw pulse with frustration and scramble to change the subject again. “Why is it so chilly in here?”



Her smile disappears and she tugs her sweatshirt nervously. “I didn’t know it was.”



“How can you possibly not know?” I start to the thermostat across the room when she clears her throat.



“The heater isn’t working right. I asked Lane to come by and look at it earlier this week.”



“And he hasn’t been here yet?” I shoot her a look and she shakes her head. “He’ll be here tonight.” I dig my cell outta my pocket.



“Crew, don’t. Please. The last time you called my landlord he was a complete jerk to me for a couple of months. I just got on good terms with him again.”



I scroll through my contacts list, looking for his name.



“Crew ...” I know her doe-eyes are pleading with me. I also know if I look up at her, I’ll be somewhat inclined to give in. So I don’t.

Even Angels Fall by F.L. Darbyshire

While I wasn't a huge fan of the first person perspective(I very rarely am), I did enjoy the writing of F.L. Darbyshire. With this plot and the characters she created, she created a very real world situation that could happen to anyone.

Speaking of the plot, I will warn you that you will need Kleenex handy to catch your falling tears. It was that kind of real life story. And the way F.L. Darbyshire formats that ending, wow, definitely makes it the tears even worse.

There were a few sudden shifts in perspective that made me have to go back and reread the last few sentences but I also figured it out pretty quickly.

Watching Abby going downhill was like watching one of your best friends going through the same thing, that's how close you get to her.

Even Angels Fall is a gritty story that could happen in real life. It was a beautiful if painful read!

Review:

Across the Distance is told in first person perspective. I did enjoy this perspective as it allowed a better look into Bailey's emotions and life. It is told solely from the perspective of Bailey which means that Griffin's or Jennifer's heads are total mysteries that you just wish you could solve or at least occasionally understand their actions a bit more. 

There were so many tears that I shed. One of the things that took place made me want to cry like  a baby and I thought it was going to happen so I resisted reading it at work or out in public for the very reason that I had already shed tears over Across the Distance.

The story of Griffin and Bailey was beautiful, hard emotionally but so worth the read. Especially if you love happy endings.

Across the Distance was an amazing read and one of the books I will no doubt reread down the road.

Okay, so I was really excited to get Nicky's story(not as excited as I am for Babs and Katie's story but still pretty excited). I wanted to know what was going on with his recovery and especially to find out more about the private goalie. And I was not disappointed. Catherine Gayle continues dealing with issues that are delicate with tact and grace. She shows the very real struggles that they might experience and wow, just wow.

Nicky's story felt like an emotional roller coaster and I seemed to go through at least a half a box of Kleenex before I was even halfway through. But it was necessary. And that made it at least a little easier to get through. It was certainly worth it when I got to the end.

Comeback also jumps ahead in time. I was excited to see some new guys but sad to find out that some had been traded or retired. But that's what happens and you just have to roll with it.

Overall, Catherine Gayle continues with a series that will tear your heart out before putting it back together. Comeback is an excellent addition to the Portland Storm Series.
