ABOUT THE AUTHOR

D.J. Donaldson is a retired professor of Anatomy and Neurobiology.  His entire academic career was spent at the University of Tennessee, Health Science Center, where he published dozens of papers on wound-healing and where he taught microscopic anatomy to thousands of medical and dental students.

He is also the author of seven published forensic mysteries and five medical thrillers. He lives in Memphis, Tennessee with his wife and two West Highland terriers. In the spring of most years he simply cannot stop buying new flowers and other plants for the couple’s prized backyard garden.

Review:

Right from the beginning DJ Donaldson captures the readers interest. The writing quickly grabs you and makes you pay attention. Not to mention it's a different way to kill victims in a mystery/suspense novel. 

The descriptions, especially of the medical facts or the autopsies were very realistic and very detailed. This definitely adds to the book in such a way that you can imagine easily what an autopsy looks like even if you haven't seen something like it on TV. Sometimes it was scarily descriptive, especially after just having eaten. But as long as you have a strong stomach or don't read it after eating, you're good to go.

The big picture in Louisiana Fever is slowly unveiled but the danger of the situation is very real and always lurking under the surface. While the threat becomes clear, the danger also is revealed and it's definitely not the kind of danger that should be ignored.

The thing I think I loved most about Louisiana Fever other than the descriptions was the fact that DJ Donaldson personifies the killer. He presents it almost as if it's human and I found that a very interesting way to look at things. It added to the book and I enjoyed it.

Louisiana Fever gets your heart pumping, and along with the detailed descriptions, it keeps you coming back for more. Review:

The first thing I noticed when reading Panic is that in the prologue Kent's voice sounded almost like a voice over. It just had that kind of tone and it probably didn't help that I had watched Iron Man 3 before reading it but I'm just going to shut up and review  Panic now, haha.

Ryan Ringbloom gives readers just enough information to tease them almost before backing away and moving onto something else. She revisits the topic later on and you find out more. It wasn't hard to find myself reading on just to find more information on the two main characters and their history.

The writing flowed really smoothly. It was really easy to read the book and the different voices came out clearly. Even if you didn't know who was speaking you could make a pretty good guess from the tone and way the characters talked.

I almost felt as if I was starting at the end of a book instead of the beginning. I'm not sure if it was just the situation the characters found themselves in or something like that but it's just a feeling that I got. It was something that I found unique to Ryan Ringbloom's writing.

The one thing that confused me was the addition of the Three Years Later and switch in character's perspective. I had a niggling suspicion about how it would be relevant to Kent and Robin's situation but I wasn't completely sure until almost the end of the book. Then it became extremely clear what was going on if it hadn't already been. It was an awkward, emotional situation and one that as a reader of romance books I don't often get. Usually the topic of adoption comes up and readers are only able to view the side of the adopter's not the one's giving their child up for adoption. It was eye-opening and something that I think was realistically portrayed. It definitely gave me a new look into a difficult subject. While I was almost wishing that I could have just avoided the chapters with Bailey and Shane, I also was glad that we got this new perspective.

Panic was a good read, one that many readers can find themselves looking into a new perspective on a difficult subject.

She looks like she’s about to be sick. Her hands dig into her stomach and she leans forward. “Why are you saying this? I thought we weren’t going to rush into anything? Now what, you’re proposing? What the hell? Here we go, moving too fast all over again.” She steps free from the car and slams the door. 

I step out and slam my own door with ten times the force. “Well, maybe fast is the only speed we know, maybe it’s the only speed that works for us.” 

“You know what, Kent? We shouldn’t have done this. It was stupid to think this would work.” She reaches into her bag for her keys and walks down the sidewalk. “Goodbye.” Her car flashes as she unlocks the driver’s side door.

“Don’t you dare leave!” I shout at her. “I just said I want to marry you and now you’re walking away from me and saying goodbye.”

She walks back over calmly and stands right in front of me. Her head tilts back to look up at me. “Sorry, but I’m not wife material,” she says. 

I’m furious. A clear thought couldn’t form if I tried. “Okay, good to know.” I grit my teeth, my mouth set in a fine line.

“You can’t be mad at me, Kent.” Her lip quivers.

“I can’t be mad? Is that what you’re telling me? ‘Cause I’ll tell you, Robin, I am way more than mad right now. You love me, you want to be with me, but you don’t want to marry me because ‘you’re not wife material.’ What does that even mean?” I holler. My fists are clenched, locked down at my sides.

“It means I’m defective,” she screams back at me. “I’m not the kind of girl you marry.”
