Like many other foundations, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation provides assistance to injured soldiers as well as their families. SOWF also focuses on one of the most important challenges those families face; 'getting to their hospitalized loved ones as quickly as possible'. With grants immediately provided to the family, they can travel to be bedside with their loved one, especially for those crucial first days. Outside, the sounds of children playing were louder, the splashes indicating that the kids across the street were enjoying one of the last swims of the summer. Avi and Ben walked silently to her car, parked in the driveway.

She nestled the pie plate into the passenger seat, tucked her purse around to hold it in place, then closed the door before turning to him.

So . . . Would he ask for her cell number? Offer his? Make firm plans to see her again before driving away?

For the first time in a long time, the answers mattered.

Linking his fingers with hers, he pulled her to the driver’s side of the car, then stood, invading her personal She liked it.

“I usually get out of clinic around six. We could meet at my house around six thirty?”

A smile spread across her face. “I can handle that.”

“Good.” He wasn’t smiling, but his eyes showed something just as encouraging. Relief, maybe, or satisfaction. Hmm. She could show him satisfaction.

He leaned closer, just slightly, and lowered his voice. “I’d kiss you good night, but we have an audience.”

Glancing over her shoulder toward the house, she caught just a glimpse of Patricia before the blinds at the living room window settled. Looking back at Ben, she smiled. “Kiss me anyway.”

He closed the last of the distance between them, lowering his mouth to hers, giving her a sweet, gentle, tender kiss that set her blood on fire. It was impressive and surprising and just a bit scary, considering she’d had tons of kisses that were a whole lot more passionate and evoked a whole lot less of a response.

When he lifted his head, her fingers curled, wanting to wrap around the back of his neck and pull him down again. Her heart skipped a beat or two, and something deep inside her felt deprived.

In the dim light, Ben looked impressed and surprised and a bit scared, too. For a moment, he stared at her, all intense and searching, then he gave a rueful shake of his head. Stepping back, he asked for her cell phone, input his number, and texted it to himself to get her number.

“Six thirty,” he said when he handed it back, his voice rough-edged. “I’ll send you the address.”

“I’ll be there.”

Best Kind of Broken by Chelsea Fine

Okay, first off, the characters. What can I say? It's obvious both have had something happen in their shared past that is affecting their relationship. What's not clear at first is what. When you find out, it's clear that both are stuck in their past instead of moving on and hopefully becoming healthy mentally. Both are full of fire and Pixie seems to have almost a childlike attitude sometimes. It was what made me fall in love with her. And I have to say the interactions between the two made for some interesting times. There were times that both deserved a good smack upside the head.

We're given slow glimpses of memories, allowing a chance to see the relationship before it turned awkward. And what a relationship they had.

I loved the descriptions. They were intriguing while still getting the point across.

The plot was kept lively and moving, allowing readers to not be bored by anything. The interactions were amusing and at times painful, depending on what they were.

Overall, Best Kind of Broken was a great book to read, and made me feel all kinds of emotions. I loved it, and I'm sure many of you would as well.

Throughout Desired we are given both Mia's and Lucas' point of view. This gives us different thought processes, opinions, and  explanations to reactions to each other .Which is great. No having to guess who is thinking what and why they reacted a certain way. Or at least not for long.

Throughout Desired, I wasn't really a big fan of Lucas. He came off surly, grouchy, annoyed, pretty much any of those words so I felt like he had this big stay away sign on him and I didn't connect with him as much as I did Mia. Mia is a real touch girl. She is determined and I just felt like I should be cheering for her throughout the book. It was great, and I really enjoyed her character and point of view.

Desired is Part One in the True Alpha series and for this reason has a major cliffhanger. When I say major, I mean fall off of a 90 degree cliff that you never saw coming cliffhanger. Just so we're clear. It's also shorter than many books because it's part one.

This is Sarah was really well written, it wasn't hard to hear Colin's voice and I found that the writing really kept the reader interested and emotionally involved. Ally Malinenko also included different forms of storytelling including the transcripts from some of Colin's interrogations and several other forms that are different from the narration that is typical. The only thing that I found was that if you didn't pay attention to the names at the beginning of the chapters it could be difficult to tell when Claire was the narrator. I was halfway through a chapter and had all these questions before going back and realizing that Claire was narrating. But other than that it was really well written.

There were lots of rough scenes,and while it was emotional, it was emotional in the way that you felt sadness, anger, or despair with or on behalf of the characters. There were few scenes that were actually happy but it was still very emotional. Dealing with Colin's refusal to grieve, anger, then Mrs. Evan's denial and Mr. Evans attempts to grieve, and many more was draining as if the reader was experiencing each and every emotion. It was amazing to get that deep into a book.

This is Sarah is an emotionally touching story, and it was well written. It's not a hard book to read and you really should give it a chance!

Review:

In the beginning of Faded the narrator sounds as if they are telling a legend or it's a legend in the making. It was great! I know that many books have to capture readers attentions in the first few pages and Faded certainly does that.

There are several scary scenes that really get your heart pumping. It was fun to be able to experience that even if it didn't happen often. 

Faded jumps between different characters perspectives in the third person which can make things slightly confusing once or twice. Most times I could figure out who was speaking but there was one time or another I was confused for a bit about who was speaking.

There were typical high school scenes that seemed to balance out the odd and at times scary occurrences. Although how the drama of high school can do that I do not know but it just seemed to work. Maybe because it's normal for many people?

I enjoyed the fact that while many times the group of four only use their powers for fighting the Forces, but they do occasionally use their powers for fun. It makes the powers seem a lot less of a burden. 

 The Forces were also convincingly life like. They use innocent people for their own purpose, do whatever they can to stay alive/get all the power. I was extremely saddened by this but it also gave me someone to hate. Which is terrible but at the same time, they do terrible things. 

The ending feels like it's setting up the next book, almost like one episode of a television show setting up for the next. It was an ending but it also felt as if there was plenty more to go on and lead into See No Evil.

One of the things I enjoyed most in Faded was the romances the reader could follow. Especially that of Savannah and Hunter even though their circumstances seem impossible. Which also added a bit of melancholy to my feelings of their relationship while for the others I felt only happiness. And maybe some sadness for at least one relationship at one point but also hope at the same time. Faded and Chloe Miles certainly made me feel a lot of different emotions during this book and this series as a whole.

Review:

Confused at first in the prologue before I quickly figured out that it was actually a future event. Which deeply saddened me. I couldn't believe that this happened. Or was going to happen.

I still felt really hopeless about the Savannah and Hunter relationship so every moment they interacted was saddening and full of despair instead of happiness like the other couples interactions made me feel. I just felt like there was no way for them to be together and felt like they were just delaying the inevitable. 

I want to know how Gwen turned out the way she did. She was so different from the rest of her family and I was really saddened and confused about how Gwen turned out how she did. It made Gwen just a little bit more human even if she was crazy, evil and I really didn't like her.

It seems as if people can be so easily convinced? Just by using their feelings against them. And it seemed like the Forces were pretty much using the same play with different characters. I found it slightly frustrating that people could actually fall for this again. It was one thing I really didn't like about See No Evil.

I loved the touching scenes where the two couples were interacting. It made everything seem as if it was less of a big, bad thing. Except when Hunter and Savannah interacted. That was more of an addition to the bad things/feelings.

I wasn't a big fan of the time jumps but I do know they're necessary. I wish they could have been more spread out in their use or less used. But it was necessary to move the plot along so I got over my dislike.

See No Evil was a great addition to the Faded trilogy.

Review:

I opened the third book in the Faded Trilogy with anticipation and excitement but at the same time dread. Especially after reading the synopsis. I felt as if there was no hope for Savannah and Hunter so I felt like the outcome was clear to me and it was saddening. I really wasn't looking forward to their parting. But as I read through, especially closer to the end I started feeling hopeful. And I'm not going to spoil it but there was a surprise that allows Savannah to be happy. I loved the ending and it definitely was a Happy Ever After kind of ending.

Throughout Ever After we get to watch everyone start to really grow up and get all of those relationship milestones that most couples follow such as moving in together. It was great to watch these things happen for Jackson and Madison as well as Logan and Abigail. But at the same time you felt sad that Savannah and Hunter would never experience these things. And yet Savannah was nice about the whole thing. She didn't really feel jealous of anything but these things. She didn't even feel resentful that she can't go elsewhere right now because of the fact that their powers are needed in Fort Everwick, none of them do. Or at least not that we see. At times I felt that this made them feel a bit unrealistic but then Chloe Miles had always said that Savannah at least wanted to go to FESU for her pre-med studies so it made it feel less of an unrealistic character.

Then there was Ryan. There's a bit of a mystery about him. Did he actually go to Canada or? And the answer to that question leads to a heartbreaking discovery. I had guessed what was going on but having it confirmed was not a happy time. He was honestly killing me and I had a hard time reading scenes with Ryan in them, even though he was always upbeat.

Ever After really captured my feelings on growing older. Especially the quote at the top of the synopsis. It made me feel really nostalgic and wishing once more for childhood. It was amazing to see all of my feelings of growing up and older translated to the pages of Ever After.

Is it bad that I got used to the book leaving much to the imagination in the case of the happiness of characters after the end of the book? Because I was almost disappointed to get a play-by-play almost of everyone's happy ending but also I loved it and read it as quickly as I could so that I would know everything! It was amazing! 

The Faded Trilogy is definitely a book to read if you enjoy paranormal romances. I would suggest that this is mostly for young adults but that doesn't mean that adults couldn't read it and enjoy the trilogy. So give it a chance and I think you'll find yourself a new, amazing book.

Hot Shot by Lynn Raye Harris

Throughout the book, Jack and Gina both become living, breathing people to the readers. We're give some of Jack's past and that helps the reader empathize with him. Not to mention understand why he does what he does even though sometimes I felt like smacking him for being a complete and utter idiot! But it was easy to understand where he was coming from. He felt guilt and was still grieving. Although I admit that in the end I was really happy with his actions. Not his past ones, but the ones he was making to make things right.

Then there's Gina. I felt bad for her because she's under constant scrutiny as a celebrity and that she's forced to deal with a situation she's not really prepared for. But she handled things really well. I felt admiration for how strong she could be at least when it counted. However she did make at least one decision that I felt she could have handled better. But at the same time I'm reminded that it's easy to look back or at characters and see everything that they're doing wrong and how they could have done better. So really she just did the best she could with what she had.

There were lots of drama, and if it wasn't a combination of action and emotional drama than it was one or the other. It kept things interesting. And there were touching scenes between several characters. Including the team. Their interactions served as some lighthearted banter that relieved a bit of tension. But it's clear that they're close. And I loved that. It was sweet. But at the same time amusing. And the nicknames were great! Although I wish I knew a bit more about the characters so that I could understand the reason behind the nicknames better. 

Hot Shot seems to be able to stand as a stand-alone but there was at least one thing mentioned that while it was explained briefly I would have liked some more background. But that's easily remedied by reading the rest of the series.

I loved reading Hot Shot and it sounds like this would be a good series! Hot Shot comes out on June 30th. You should definitely look into it!

Toni Aleo draws readers in from the very first sentence. It's simple and yet conveys so much. Then Amberlyn continues on telling her story and you can't help but feel an immediate connection with her and find yourself sympathizing for her. Everyone can sympathize with Amberlyn even if they haven't experienced loss of such magnitude as Amberlyn. People still understand the feeling and can connect with the pain that Amberlyn is feeling as she struggles to find a way to move on. But it's also remarkable that Amberlyn has sacrificed so much and yet feels no bitterness. Feel a pride in her for being able to do that at such a young age. 

Throughout The Whiskey Prince we are shown several emotional scenes and it's hard for the reader not to feel the emotions of the characters. I found myself reading this book with an almost permanent happy grin on my face. But there were a few times where I just had to let myself cry even as I continued reading. 

If you enjoyed the movie P.S. I Love You, than I think you'll feel somewhat of a connection here. There seemed to be a similar situation to the plot of that movie but it also didn't follow the same path as P.S. I Love You. The two were similar in the way that her mother leaves two letters for her but that seems to be where the similarities end besides the grief that both characters feel and work through.

Then there's Declan. Throughout the entire book I can almost hear his Irish Brogue and I found myself cursing Toni. Mostly because she keeps creating these characters that I can't help but take as Book boyfriends and no real guy could ever compare to the sweet, touching characters that Toni has created(at least I haven't met one yet.) But he's also different from many of Toni's characters. For example, he's not as confident or outgoing as many of the Assassin's series characters seem to be. It was a refreshing change and I'm really glad that I was able to get an ARC copy of The Whiskey Prince.

Throughout The Whiskey Prince, the characters almost seem to be interacting with the readers at certain times. It was great! And it made the reader feel even more into this book.

I loved the interaction between characters as well. It could be frustrated, or funny, but it always felt real. I especially looked forward to the interaction of the two families with each other. The family dynamics were fun to read and get involved in.

There was also an unexpected twist that I certainly didn't seem coming. I found myself begging for the book not to end so that I would be able to find out if everyone was okay and that everything was going to work out. Although there was still enough of a cliffhanger left to lead into the next book in the series. 

Okay, guys I seriously need to stop reading books that are in series' that are still being released. It's just painful to have to wait! But then I probably wouldn't find all these amazing books and authors so on the other hand, never mind. Ignore that first sentence.

Toni Aleo has created another masterpiece and I look forward to future books! Oh, and The Whiskey Prince is being released on July 14th, 2014.

Love Reborn by Victoria Bright

Readers are thrown right in and I love that we get to see Victoria Bright's take on angels, heaven and everything in between. Not everyone is going to have the same thoughts on the subject and it's always nice to get someone else's perspective. 

Ahmed's emotions run deep and Victoria Bright has no problem showing them and in such a way that she's not pushing them too far. It's easy to see the pain he is in but he also has a sense of humour and acts childish around his best friend. She also shows that he has baggage without constantly bringing it up and the same goes for Whitney. 

The only thing I was iffy on was Paris but I think that's just because she was an angel in disguise and I couldn't quite connect with her? I almost felt as if I couldn't make a connection with her and so she certainly wasn't my favourite character.

Other than that I really enjoyed Love Reborn. It was an interesting read.

There's a saying, I can't remember it exactly but it's something like, 'you never really know what you've got until it's gone'. I've thought I knew how that felt many times in my life. Prior to marrying my wonderful soul mate, I had serious relationships that ended and thought I knew then. I've had long-term friendships end and thought I knew then. I've left secure jobs and though I knew then.

But I was wrong.

I did learn the true meaning of that saying though, when my parents died, almost eleven months to the day apart.

Talk about a serious kick in the rear.
