Rachel Lacey
Releasing Aug 30th, 2016
Forever

ONE LITTLE LIE. A WHOLE LOTTA TROUBLE.

Moments after meeting the most gorgeous guy ever, Gabby Winters promptly gets stung by a zillion yellow jackets and falls-not gracefully-into a stream. Yup, Ethan Hunter is trouble with a capital "hot," and Gabby definitely needs to keep her distance. Except in the small town of Haven, there's nowhere to hide from Ethan's sexy, infectious grin . . . and all the residents are conspiring against her.

At the center of the town's matchmaking is Ethan's grandmother, who's convinced their relationship is a done deal. Rather than break her heart, Gabby and Ethan find themselves cornered into pretending to be falling in love. The problem: there's serious sizzling attraction between them. And if this charade continues, they won't fool just the entire town - they might fool themselves too . . .

REVIEW:

I laughed my butt off throughout this book although it also did have it's serious moments. It was a humorous read and you felt bad for both Gabby and Ethan! But then there was also Ethan's grandmother who added such depth to the book as well, not to mention a certain presence that worked really well.

The plot wasn't something that hadn't been done before but Rachel Lacey made sure to keep it fresh and ensure her characters kept the plot moving without stagnating.

Overall this was a really good read and one I would recommend to any romance fans!

This is definitely not Carly's real life . . .
Now there's just the two of them, a roaring fire, lots of food and drink, and a sizzling attraction - one that just might make Carly do the unexpected. For one night, she'll live the fantasy. Excerpt

Carly Taylor crouched behind the display case, peeking out between the blueberry muffins and the orange-cranberry scones. A man stood just inside the door, baseball cap pulled low, talking on his phone. He’d never come into A Piece of Cake Bakery before. And it was probably just her imagination playing tricks on her, but she could swear it was Sam Weiss. As in, one of the hottest rock stars in America.
Carly peeked at him again from behind the scones, then leaned over to pick up the napkin she’d pretended to drop to give herself an excuse to snoop. Sam Weiss probably lived in Hollywood. There was no way he’d be standing here—sans entourage—in the doorway of her little bakery in Haven, North Carolina, a town in the Smoky Mountains so small that it barely registered as a blip on the map.
Nope.
She was daydreaming, as usual. She’d listened to Sam’s latest album, Renegade, this morning while she baked, and now she was imagining him here in her shop.
“What are you doing down there, Carly?”
Carly looked up to see her grandma, Marlene, peering at her over the glass countertop. “I, ah, dropped something.”
“Lost in your thoughts again?” her grandmother asked with a wide smile.
“Something like that.” Carly climbed to her feet, clutching the dropped napkin.
Her grandmother’s friend Dixie stood beside her, her blue eyes twinkling mischievously. “Daydreaming about that handsome young man over by the door, I bet.”
Carly resisted the urge to glance in his direction but felt herself grinning anyway. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Well, we’re on our way out,” her grandmother said. “Aqua aerobics to work off those muffins.”
“Worth every calorie,” Dixie added.
The two women waved as they headed for the door, walking past the mystery hottie as they left. Carly’s grandma had created this bakery and ran it happily for over twenty years. She’d retired six months ago, handing over the reins to Carly.
But owning A Piece of Cake had been anything but a piece of cake for Carly so far. Profits were down, way down. She needed to get her head out of the clouds—and her mind off certain rock star look-a-likes—before she ran her grandmother’s pride and joy straight into the ground.
With a heavy sigh, she tossed the napkin she still held into the trash.
“What do you recommend?”
She looked up and into the blue eyes of Sam Weiss—or his non-celebrity twin. Lookalike or not, he was ridiculously hot, and she was a dork because her cheeks were burning. He wore a leather jacket over a black T-shirt and dark-washed jeans. But his eyes…wow. He still wore the baseball cap pulled low, with a sinful amount of stubble on his cheeks that all screamed Rock God.
“If you have a sweet tooth, you should, um, try a cinnamon bun. They’re my specialty.”
He leaned in, resting his elbows on the counter. “I do have a sweet tooth, especially for a pretty woman who bakes. This your place?”
That voice. Sweet Jesus. It was smooth as caramel with just a hint of a southern twang, and she’d know it anywhere. Sam Weiss is in my shop! And did he just hit on me?
“Yes.” She cleared her throat because why did she suddenly sound like Minnie Mouse? “Yes, this is my shop.”
A slow smile curved his lips. “A pretty woman who bakes and owns her own business. I like you already.”
“Thanks.” She really shouldn’t keep staring, but whoa, her brain was short-circuiting because…Sam Weiss. In her shop. Looking like sex on a stick, and he smelled pretty awesome too, like some kind of expensive cologne. Yum.
“I’ll try one of your cinnamon buns…” He paused, glancing down for the nametag she never wore since everyone in town already knew her name.
“Carly,” she said, still sounding a bit like she’d inhaled helium.
“Carly.” He met her gaze again, and the sound of her name on his lips made her knees wobble. “And a coffee, black.”
“You got it,” she said with a smile that felt weird on her face, and God, why was she being such an idiot? “For here?”
He nodded, watching her intently as if he’d figured out by all her bumbling dorkiness that she’d recognized him because, really, how could he not? At least he looked amused instead of annoyed.
She dished up a cinnamon bun and a cup of coffee without dropping anything or making a further fool of herself, and he paid in cash—denying her the thrill of seeing what name might be on his credit card. He probably went by some cool alter ego when he traveled anyway.
“Thanks, Carly,” he said in that butter-soft voice that made her feel all hot and fluttery inside. Then he leaned in, winked, and pressed a finger to his lips, making a silent, “sh.”
And oh my God, he knew she knew. Which meant it was definitely him. And she grinned like an idiot while he walked to a table in the back and sat, long legs stretched in front of him. A muffled beep from the direction of the kitchen told her she’d forgotten to take the last batch of butterscotch pecan sandies out of the oven.
So much for keeping her mind on business this morning. But at this exact moment—her eyes still on Sam Weiss—she didn’t care. Not even a little bit.

REVIEW:

Ever After is a good mix of humorous and yet still serious. The characters helped to lend this attitude to the book as their thoughts certainly made for a laugh or a chilling through. Rachel Lacey made sure that Pete and Olivia are far from perfect but they both have their strengths as well as their weaknesses.

Both have also had their fair share of difficulties but it's amazing that they are so resilient and fought back. Olivia was determined to change things in her world and she wouldn't stop even when scary things started happening. Pete had some tough things in his past to get over and throughout the novel he worked it out in his head.

There were certainly some painful moments, moments where you wanted to scream at the characters, either Olivia or Pete but then the happy moments were certainly worth it.

Ever After was a great read, one that I really enjoyed.

EXCERPT:

“They’ve defaced your car twice and hassled you in person all in a matter of days. I’d say it’s likely you haven’t seen the end of them, not unless you’re planning to do as they asked and back off your campaign against Halverson Foods.”
Her chin went up again. “Not a chance.”
A smile tugged at the corner of his lips. “That’s what I thought. The sheriff’s office is just a few blocks away. You look like you’re turning into a popsicle, so why don’t I drive us over and then I’ll bring you back here afterward and see you home.”
She cleared her throat. “See me home?”
He reached out to tuck a strand of shiny blond hair behind her ear. “I’ll follow you in my SUV and keep right on driving once I see that you’re home safely with no unwelcome visitors hanging around.”
“That’s awfully chivalrous of you,” she said.
They were alone in the parking lot and standing way too close for any good purpose.
“Just doin’ my job.” Although his job had nothing to do with the way he felt about her right then. He shoved his hands into the pockets of his jeans, trying to keep his mind off the way the street lamps reflected like little half-moons in her eyes or her flowery scent that toyed with his senses and hijacked his self-control.
“You’re not even on duty right now, and I’ve taken up your whole evening. I don’t think that’s in your job description. Thank you.” She went up on her toes and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. Instinctively, he turned his head so that her lips met his. She sucked in a breath, her eyes wide. He’d startled her, taken a friendly gesture too far.
“Sorry,” he whispered against her lips.
“Don’t be,” she said and kissed him back.
He drank in her scent and the feel of her lips on his. He wanted to taste every inch of her, more than he wanted his next breath, but not here, not now. Certainly not right before he marched her into the sheriff’s office to give her official report.
He rested his forehead against hers. “I didn’t mean to do that.”
She laughed, and the sound loosened something deep inside his chest. “But I’m glad you did.”
“I can’t do this with you right now, not while I’m working your case—your other case.” He held her hands in his.
“Well that’s a bummer. Is it against the rules to date a criminal?”
He heard the laughter in her voice. “No, but as your arresting officer, it’s against the rules to become involved with you before your court date.”
“That’s only three weeks away.”
“Olivia.” He lifted her hands to his chest. “It’s not that simple. I’m about to take your official statement about what happened here in the parking lot earlier. It’s unethical in so many ways to even contemplate what you’re thinking about right now.”
She slid her hands around his neck and pressed her cheek to his. “Fine. I get it. But you know, if I get off without a criminal record next month, maybe give me a call?”
He laughed, pulling her closer against him. “Maybe.”

EXCERPT:

His expression heated until his eyes practically burned her.

She nibbled her bottom lip. "I should, uh, I should go."
"It's late," he said, his voice like gravel. It tickled all her sweet spots.
She stared at his hands, those big calloused fingers. Damn, but she wanted to feel them on her skin. Like, now.
"Really late." She took a step, but her feet accidentally carried her toward T.J., not the door.
He sucked in an audible breath, his eyes scorching hers. "I thought you were going."
"So did I." But fuck it. If she was going to be in his house in the middle of the night in her underwear, she might as well give him a kiss goodnight.
She'd never been known for her self-control, after all.
He watched her, not moving a muscle, as if he'd become rooted to the floor.
She put her palms on his biceps and pressed her lips to his. Just a quick kiss to test the waters, because they did have to work together for the next month.
His scent wrapped around her, filled her lungs, and stole her sanity. She lingered for a moment, her lips on his, so soft, so warm. Just enough to make her want more. So much more.
Her body pulsed with it.
She was about to pull back and tell him goodnight when his arms slid around her waist, securing her against the firm column of his body, and oh God, she was a goner.
"What was that?" he whispered against her lips.
She slid her hands up to encircle his neck. "A goodnight kiss."
"And why would you do something like that?" His voice vibrated through her.
"Because I wanted to." Their bodies were pressed together, and though he hadn't kissed her back, he wanted to. She felt the evidence pressed against her belly.
"Bad idea," he growled, his lips still touching hers, teasing, tempting.
"Oh, yeah?" She could hardly breathe. Every nerve tingled with awareness, desperate for his touch, his kiss. More. More of everything.
Her heart throbbed in her chest.
T.J.'s eyes smoldered into hers, his pupils blown with lust. His body vibrated with tension, his arms like steel bands around her. "Yeah."
"Then send me home." She wiggled in his arms, pressing into his erection, tempting him, willing him to kiss her back. Just for tonight.
She needed to be kissed. She needed to feel.
And he could make her...
His lips crushed hers, taking her so suddenly, so thoroughly, that she didn't have time to draw a breath. She heard herself groan, felt the desire inside her explode into something so completely out of control it almost frightened her.
Her back slammed into the wall, and her legs wrapped around his waist. His tongue plunged into her mouth, gliding against hers in a rhythm so perfect she shuddered in his arms. He lifted her hips, grinding himself against her until her eyes rolled back in her head, and...
Holy shit, holy shit.
She must have lost her mind. Her body burned, quaked, shook for him, and he felt so fucking good. He tasted like sin, sweet and sexy, like leather and cowboy boots, and...
Holy shit.
She needed more. She needed everything. She needed him buried deep inside her, groaning her name as he drove her over the edge, as he came inside her, and...
Holy shit.
This was completely out of control.
"Holy shit." The words came from T.J.'s lips, not her own, as he tore his mouth from hers and speared her with his gaze. He panted for breath, his body coiled against hers, so hard, so ready. She felt every inch of him still pressed between her legs, right where her body burned hottest for him. "What the hell was that?"
She laughed. "If you don't know, then you're more out of practice than I am."
