Frisk Me by Lauren Layne Release Week Blitz!

About Frisk Me
After a photograph of Luc Moretti saving a tourist hits social media, he instantly becomes New York's most famous and beloved cop. When a major network decides to run a special on the "American Hero," Luc's boss gives him no choice but to cooperate in the name of good exposure for the department. Luc doesn't mind the celebrity status-what he does mind is the gorgeous brunette journalist who's been assigned to follow his every move. Especially since she also happens to be the same knockout that rejected him rather publicly the week before.

Ava Sims is a woman who gets what she wants. And what she wants is to be CBC's lead anchor-but to get there, she'll need to nail the fluff piece on the playboy cop. Luc Moretti is everything Ava knows to stay away from: a stubborn charmer with a hero-complex. But the more Ava gets to know Luc and his oddball family, the more she realizes that beneath the swagger and the blue uniform is a complex man who makes her heart beat too fast. Soon, Ava's doing the unthinkable, and falling for the best of New York's finest …

REVIEW:

So, this romance was certainly a good one. Both Luc and Ava had their own pressures from family or secrets that were hidden, possibly even both. But while these things did make it harder on their relationship, it also helped them see where they wanted to go and what they were willing to do to get to the top. It was a struggle throughout the book and there were moments that you felt disappointment in Luc and/or Ava.

Lauren Layne created a novel in which the characters were ones that you strongly felt for, perhaps even had times where you were proud or disappointed in them. This made the book that much more interesting because you weren't just feeling the characters emotions, you were feeling your own about these characters.

Frisk Me was a hot romance that was well written and moved the readers emotions. I strongly recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a romance that involves cops.

Review:

I have to say that Katie MacAlister has certainly created an interesting book. She doesn't stick to just the traditional way of writing a novel. The first few pages are interview style, letting the reader get to know the way that Aoife speaks and what happened to  her.

This book had many different moments. Some were awkwardly hilarious, some were just hilarious and others were worrying.  But there were always those moments where you wanted to do nothing but laugh your head off. And there were several surprises to be had that didn't go over well.

Aoife is certainly much like any person with Kostya being an annoyingly arrogant dragon.

I'm certainly interested in reading more from Katie MacAlister, based on Dragon Fall.

The Legacy of Copper Creek by R.C. Ryan Release Week Blitz!

When Love Walks Through the Door . . .
Like all MacKenzie men, Whit respects three things: hard work, his family, and the wild beauty of the Montana land he calls home. The solitude of the high country is a welcome respite to a loner like Whit. So when a powerful spring snowstorm hits as he's tending the herd, Whit heads to one of the family's isolated cabins. The cold winds don't trouble him. The gorgeous mystery woman waiting inside does.

All Cara Walton wanted was a chance to clear her head. And the forgotten cabin on the outskirts of the MacKenzie ranch seemed like the perfect place to do just that—until Whit arrives. The rugged cowboy quickly melts Cara's defenses and she's powerless to resist his strong arms or his tender touch. She desperately wants to trust him, but there's so much Whit doesn't know, so much she hasn't told him. She lost everything once—can she find the courage to risk her heart again?

REVIEW:

Well, both characters certainly have their troubles. And there is a bit of a surprise about their troubles that is still to come even after you hear their stories. Cara and Whit both have their demons and are trying to work through them.

The writing was really good although it almost felt as if it moved very quickly at some points in the story. It was never to the point where I was lost though.

The Legacy of Copper Creek was humerous at points, ansty at others and cetainly very hot at other points.

While the villian is not hard to discover, his motive is not clear or was not to me. And that is what I wanted to know once everything else was explained well enough.

The ending was beautiful and that is all I really have to say.

Overall, The Legacy of Copper Creek was a good read, and contained good writing and characters that were less than perfect.

EXCERPT:

The door opened and the woman who’d been on his mind stepped into the snow and started toward him.
“I feel like Nanook of the North.” She was grinning from ear to ear.
He was relieved to see the smile back in her eyes. “You look like my nephew Casey when his mother puts him in a snowsuit. It’s like a straightjacket and he can barely move. Can you bend those arms?”
With a laugh, she walked stiff-legged and stiff-armed in his direction. “What arms? Are there arms under all these layers?”
He was laughing as she bent down and, without warning, scooped up a handful of snow before taking aim. It hit him squarely in the face.
His smile turned into a look of surprise before he set aside the ax and filled both hands with snow. “Goldilocks, that was a declaration of war. And you don’t stand a chance.”
Seeing what he planned, she ducked, and the snowball he tossed landed harmlessly on the bark of a tree behind her.
“A certain cowboy needs to correct his aim.” She scooped up more snow and sent it flying toward his head.
Before she could blink, a handful of snow landed on her cheek and found its way down the collar of her parka.
Just as she brushed it aside, she looked up to see him racing toward her.
With a squeal, she turned and started running.
In quick strides he caught up with her and wrapped both arms around her, lifting her clean off her feet. In one quick motion, he scooped up snow and lobbed it right at her.
“Oh, you’ll pay for this, Cowboy.” She was still wiping away the snow when he bent down and filled his hands with more.
Seeing that, she dropped to her knees and did the same.
“Not on your life, woman.” Whit leapt on her, moving so quickly she was pinned beneath him, and they sank into a snowdrift tall enough to bury them both.
He grabbed some snow and held it up menacingly.
“You’d better apologize for that sneak attack, Goldilocks, or your face is going to freeze.”
She held up both hands in a sign of surrender. “Whit. No. I’ve had enough.”
Laughing, he tossed aside the snow. When he looked down at her, he realized too late that it had been a mock surrender. Laughing, she tackled him and rubbed a snowball into his face, forcing him to eat a handful of snow.
“Quite the little actress, aren’t you? Now you’ve done it. I won’t be fooled again by your cheating.”
“I wasn’t cheating. I was using war strategy.”
“Here’s your strategy.” Straddling her, he smeared snow over her face just as she did the same to him.
They both froze in place, laughing so hard they could barely catch their breath.
“I love the devious way you think, Goldilocks.”
“You mean, the same way you do?”
“Yeah.” Whit leaned close enough to touch his forehead to hers. And immediately realized his mistake.
Up close, her face was glowing and her lips, pursed in a perfect little pout, filled his line of vision.
“I think I’ve found a way to end this war.”
Seeing the way his gaze burned over her lips, she understood his intention and tried to turn her face away.
He reached up and caught her chin so that she could do nothing more than watch as his face slowly descended toward hers.
“You’d better declare a truce, Goldilocks.”
“Never.” The word was forced from her suddenly dry throat in a low, drawn-out whisper.
“Oh, I do love a challenge. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
His mouth closed over hers in a kiss that was as shocking to their systems as the snow had been just moments earlier. A kiss that sent tiny spears of fire and ice dancing through both their veins.
“Ready to declare a truce?”

Ruin & Rule by Pepper Winters Release Week Blitz!

About RUIN & RULE
Growing up in the same motorcycle club, Arthur Killian and Cleo Price were as close as siblings until the night he set her home on fire. Her testimony sent him to prison, but he used his talent with numbers to secure an early release. When Arthur and Cleo's paths cross again, he knows he's found the perfect opportunity for revenge.

The sole survivor of the fire that killed her parents, Cleo grew up with painful scars covering the entire right side of her body. Now, though, she wakes up with tattoos covering the left half, and no memory of how she got them. In fact, she remembers nothing from her previous life. The only thing she knows is that her captor is familiar, and he makes her feel things she never thought possible. But he has secrets about her past, and Cleo discovers that the truth may be hidden in the markings covering her body.

REVIEW:

Ruin & Rule is definitely a dark read. And it shows in the main characters, especially Kill. It's obvious he's gone through a lot of painful things to get where he is and he's still fighting. Although we don't actually get much of his perspective except for the quotes at the beginning of each chapter. It makes things so that we're in the dark as much as Cleo.

The writing certainly made it hard to put down! I didn't want to do anything but read once I picked up this book.

We were in the dark just as Cleo was with her memory loss and it's very difficult to figure out who to trust. And there's information that comes out that just adds to the confusion.

oh, and beware! Ruin & Rule ends in a cliffhanger so if you don't like cliffhangers than you just might want to wait until the sequel comes out!

Excerpt:
Parker discarded his jacket, tossing it onto the leather sofa before sinking down into its depths. He loosened his tie and undid the top button of his shirt, then rubbed a hand over his face in one of the few gestures of tiredness I ever saw him make.
Getting to my feet, I crossed to an antique highboy that used to belong to Parker’s grandfather. It was where he kept his liquor. Opening the front panels, I took out a crystal old-fashioned and the decanter half-full of scotch. I poured an inch or so into the glass, replaced the decanter, and walked to the sofa.
Parker was watching me as I set the glass on the table at his elbow. It was a ritual we often had on evenings we both worked late. Personally, for as hard as he worked I thought Parker deserved a drink far earlier in the evening, but he never touched a drop until after nine o’clock. I wished I had half his discipline and self-control.
Leaning forward, he rested his elbows on his knees as he picked up the glass. His gaze dropped to my bare feet and I was absurdly glad I’d had a pedi recently, my toes a sparkly Cozu-Melted-In-The Sun pink.
We didn’t speak, but the silence was comfortable to me as I resumed my spot on the floor. Parker and I had an understanding. At least, I understood him. He made me feel needed—necessary—and as an only child who’d never been really needed by anyone, I liked that. And I liked him.
My mom had been bugging me lately to “get a real job” that actually pertained to my degree, but I’d brushed her off, even when she’d intimated my father “knew people” who could help me. I wanted to get a job on my own merits. Besides, I had plenty of time to worry about my career in art history. For now, I was content being an executive administrative assistant to Parker, and times like this reminded me of why that was the case.
Dragging another box down from the now shorter stack, I began sorting through it, scooting between my piles as I labeled and made notes. The only sounds were that of the music, the quiet beep of my scanner, and the shuffle of paper. It was a companionable moment, just the two of us. Then he had to go and ruin it.
“I saw you and Ryker tonight,” Parker said out of the blue.
I glanced around to see his gaze steady on me.
“Earlier,” he continued. “You were leaving with him.” His tone was difficult to read, his expression impossible.
Unsure how to respond, I opted for the truth, and considering their earlier hostility toward each other, vagueness. “He asked me to dinner,” I said with a shrug. “So, I went.”
Parker took a large drink of scotch before replying. I watched the exposed skin of his throat move as he swallowed.
“Ryker’s not a bad guy,” he said, his gaze focused on his drink. “Just perhaps not your type.”
My eyebrows climbed at that. Not my type? A hot guy with abs of steel wasn’t my type? “And you know what my type is?”

EXCERPT:
She wore a pair of faded blue jeans that clung to her hips and butt like they were part of her.  Her green tank top looked like something she might have found at a tag sale.  The slippery, clingy fabric was covered in Oriental flowers, and it was almost see-through.
Not to mention that it exposed her shoulders, which had freckles on them.  As usual, Sabina had pulled her hair back into a ponytail.  And as usual, wisps of hair had escaped around her face.  He wanted to cross the room, pull that damn rubber band out of her hair, and bury his hands and his nose in all those amazing curls.
Oh yeah, and his hands itched to touch her breasts through that silky fabric.  Which is why he balled them into fists and jammed them into his pockets.  Then he pretended that his feet were set into concrete.
A man could get hurt by lust like this.
And that didn’t even count the damage his feelings for Sabina might do to Lucy or Henrietta or even the folks in Last Chance who were all invested in him marrying Lucy.
He didn’t want to feel this way.
About anyone.
Lust like this was just crazy.  It made a man do stupid things, and he had been there and done that.  He much preferred the cool, calm feeling he had for Lucy and her lists.
Sabina stood there staring at him for a moment, her lips soft and parted.  The afternoon sun coming through the dusty window, lit up her hair.  Her voice sounded squeaky when she started talking, and she stammered, which was not like her at all.
“Uh . . . I . . . Uh.  I got a call from Bubba Lockheart.  I gather y’all moved the trunk down from the attic?”
“Oh, yeah, you came for the trunk.”  He had the twin sensations of being relieved and disappointed all at the same time.
She nodded.
“It’s in the living room.  Let me get the hand truck.”  He hurried out onto the back porch and snagged the dolly and wheeled it into the living room.
Sabina was waiting for him.
“So, did you search through it?  What else is inside?”  She tilted her head, and for an instant, she resembled a little kid on Christmas morning, so excited to be unwrapping a present.
“Uh, no.  We were kind of busy today.”  He kept his words sharp and short.  He shoved the dolly under the trunk and tilted it back.  Then he wheeled it all the way out to the porch and down a make-shift ramp that had been set up over the front steps.  Sabina followed him and opened the tailgate of her van.
“Can you lift it yourself or do you need help?” she asked.
“I can do it.” He wanted her to leave.  Fast.  But the trunk was awkward and he almost tilted it sideways when he tried to lift it.  Before he could stop her, Sabina bent down and grabbed one of the handles and helped.
Together they got it up into the van.  But in the process they ended up side by side and their shoulders touched.
He’d never been burned by a fire.  He was practically religious about keeping his gear in topnotch form.  But that touch scalded him.  It would have been normal to jump back from all that heat.  After all, he’d been trained to know the danger of uncontrolled fires.
But his training went right out the window, along with his common sense.  Instead of running like hell, he turned toward her.  She looked up at him, the fire dancing in her eyes.  Oh, man, this was so wrong.
And so right.
“Ross,” she whispered, her voice so damn sultry.
His mind told him to stop.  But his heart had a completely different idea.  His heart had been waiting decades to kiss Sabina Grey.  And there she was, right in reach, and her mouth looked so ready to be kissed that he couldn’t help himself.
He leaned down and pressed his mouth to her lips, and even though this wasn’t exactly the hands-on, bodies-pressed-together, hot and heavy kiss he’d once fantasized about, the heat of the moment still swept through him.
He wanted to pull her close.  He wanted to explore her mouth a little deeper.  He wanted to do a lot more than dance with her.
But Sabina pushed back.
“We can’t do this.”  Her look was stunningly sober.
“Right,” he said on a deep exhalation.  “Right.”  He repeated the word because his mind had sort of checked out for a moment.  “I’m sorry.”
She didn’t accept his apology.  She just gave him one of those female looks that were so hard to decipher.  This one was pretty bad ass.
And then she backed away, ran to the driver’s side of the van, and took off, sending the gravel on the driveway flying.

A PROMISE OF FOREVER by Marilyn Pappano (June 30, 2015; Forever Mass Market; A Tallgrass Novel)
Sergeant First Class Avi Grant's return to Tallgrass, Oklahoma is a long-deferred wish come true. With her final tour in Afghanistan over, Avi can focus on her future-a job here at home and a family of her own. There's just one thing she has to do first: visit her beloved commanding officer's widow and share her grief. The last thing she expected was to feel an instant attraction to the woman's son. Too bad the sexy surgeon is impossible to ignore . . . and even harder to resist.

The sting of his parents' divorce still niggles at Ben Noble. So when a warm, funny, and beautiful young sergeant arrives, mourning his stepfather's loss as strongly as his mother does, Ben can't help but feel conflicted. If his parents taught him anything, it's that love doesn't last-especially with a career soldier. But try as he might to keep his distance, Ben begins to see that Avi-and the spark she brings to his life-is the stuff forever is made of. As Avi's leave ticks away, can Ben convince her to take a chance on forever with him?
Excerpt:

Outside, the sounds of children playing were louder, the splashes indicating that the kids across the street were enjoying one of the last swims of the summer. Avi and Ben walked silently to her car, parked in the driveway.
She nestled the pie plate into the passenger seat, tucked her purse around to hold it in place, then closed the door before turning to him.
So . . . Would he ask for her cell number? Offer his? Make firm plans to see her again before driving away?
For the first time in a long time, the answers mattered.
Linking his fingers with hers, he pulled her to the driver’s side of the car, then stood, invading her personal She liked it.
“Do you have any plans for tomorrow night?”
Yes! “Not a single one.”
He combed his fingers through his hair. “Would you like to go out to dinner?”
She wanted to blurt out the affirmative as quickly as it had echoed in her head, but he went on. “You would have to drive to Tulsa. Tuesday is surgery day, so if I come here, I can’t get here before seven, and I’ll have to head back before nine.”
Drive to Tulsa? An hour or less. No big deal. She’d had commutes between apartments and forts that took longer, and that was just to work. An evening with Ben was such a nicer payoff. “I don’t mind.”
“I usually get out of clinic around six. We could meet at my house around six thirty?”
A smile spread across her face. “I can handle that.”
“Good.” He wasn’t smiling, but his eyes showed something just as encouraging. Relief, maybe, or satisfaction. Hmm. She could show him satisfaction.
He leaned closer, just slightly, and lowered his voice. “I’d kiss you good night, but we have an audience.”
Glancing over her shoulder toward the house, she caught just a glimpse of Patricia before the blinds at the living room window settled. Looking back at Ben, she smiled. “Kiss me anyway.”
He closed the last of the distance between them, lowering his mouth to hers, giving her a sweet, gentle, tender kiss that set her blood on fire. It was impressive and surprising and just a bit scary, considering she’d had tons of kisses that were a whole lot more passionate and evoked a whole lot less of a response.
When he lifted his head, her fingers curled, wanting to wrap around the back of his neck and pull him down again. Her heart skipped a beat or two, and something deep inside her felt deprived.
In the dim light, Ben looked impressed and surprised and a bit scared, too. For a moment, he stared at her, all intense and searching, then he gave a rueful shake of his head. Stepping back, he asked for her cell phone, input his number, and texted it to himself to get her number.
“Six thirty,” he said when he handed it back, his voice rough-edged. “I’ll send you the address.”

“I’ll be there.”
