About WANT IT:

In the latest tantalizing Rule Breakers novel from Jennifer Chance, an irresistible alpha male follows his ex into a deadly standoff—and reignites a heated affair.

For Erin Connelly, being a good girl isn’t such a bad thing. She’s working her dream job at a Boston art gallery and staying out of trouble, which is more than she can say for her deadbeat mom. Unfortunately, her mother’s latest misadventure lands her in the clutches of a Mexican drug lord. Now the only person who can save her is the one man Erin has no business asking for help: the sexy-as-sin army ranger who just so happens to be her former high school sweetheart.

Zander James is no gentleman—and no officer, either, thanks to Erin. Four years ago, she made a call that terminated his highest aspirations ... and their relationship. He’s never forgiven her, but when he learns that Erin’s embarking on a half-baked rescue mission, he sure as hell can’t let her go alone. Now, with a treacherous enemy lying in wait, the electrifying tension between them may just be Zander’s undoing. Because while he may be able to keep Erin alive, he can’t promise to keep his hands off her.

Review:

“He might as well still be halfway around the world.” -Jennifer Chance, Want It
WARNING: Not intended for Younger Audiences

Erin’s always been a good girl and a good daughter, doing anything she can for her mother. But when she calls from Mexico saying she’s been kidnapped, Erin knows she’s going to need advice. Enter Zander, the ex from her past whose future she thinks she destroyed. Hard feelings abound and sparks fly, but can the two work things out while saving Erin’s mother? Find the official description on Goodreads.

At first I thought this book would be interested but not as interesting as I did. Mostly because I thought that the story between Erin and Zander was pretty cut and dry. Basically High School Sweethearts had a bad break-up. But as I started reading, I found things were far from cut and dry. I loved being able to read the book and see flashbacks they would get from the past and watch them realize that maybe those actions hadn’t been the best. It was amazing to watch their growth throughout the book.

The chapters are split between Zander and Erin. Both characters give us different insights into both their pasts and their present situation. I did enjoy it. But sometimes I wished that there was a bit more mystery about at least one of their thoughts.

The description of Zander was mouth watering. I could imagine what he looked like and….ugh, he looked amazing in my mind. I loved the descriptions that were incorporated throughout the book. They were detailed enough to give you a concrete image in your mind.

Want it by Jennifer Chance was a good read. It was released on December 9th, and is now available for purchase.

Excerpt 3: You're Stuck with Me Now

A note to readers from author Jennifer Chance:

Part of what made Zander such a special hero for me to write is that he makes no apologies for his manner—he’s tough and borderline surly, but he gets things done. For him, that’s what’s important. In this scene, he’s finally beginning to pierce through the armored shell that Erin has built around herself. When they’d dated as teenagers, he’d never troubled himself too much over what her family life was like. She was living with her grandmother, and that was that. Now he’s beginning to learn that there are secrets that Erin has been keeping from him for a lot longer than he ever thought possible, and he’s determined to find out more.
Zander liked to pride himself on the looks he got from most women, but the shock in Erin’s eyes trumped all of them and then some. He’d been right. She’d been holding out on him. “So what’s it going to be, Erin?” he asked. “You gonna level with me, or you really want me to walk away?”
She recovered, lifting her chin. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Uh, uh, uh,” he said. “Spill. And remember, with me, you get your parents back, and yourself, in one piece. Then you can go back to your fancy art-gallery job, they can go back to whatever stupid jobs they abandoned to play Mexican Vacation. Without me, though, you not only lose all your money, but your folks will probably end up dead as well. And you, too, though I suspect the bad guys would have a good time playing with you first.”
Erin’s eyes shot open wide with shock, betrayal, and more than a little fear. Good. She needed to understand that what she was walking into down in Mexico was not some sort of Christmas-gift exchange. “I can’t believe you just said that.”
He shrugged again. “What haven’t you told me?”
“Fine,” she snapped. “You want to know what else? I’ll tell you. It’s not my mom and dad down there. I don’t know my dad. I never knew him.” Her face was red with . . . what? Anger? Embarrassment? But she pushed on. “It’s just my mom’s boyfriend, some guy named Mike who I’ve never even met before. That’s who I get to go bail out.” She shook her head. “You know what, screw this. Don’t get involved, Zander. This is just the latest in a long string of dumb things my mom has done to me since I was old enough to walk. Hell, probably even before that.”
“Too late,” Zander said evenly, no longer sure what to believe about Erin’s mother, though at least this time, the words rang true. “I’m already involved. You’re stuck with me now.”
