A Kiss to Build A Dream On by Kim Amos

About A KISS TO BUILD A DREAM ON
Twelve years ago, beautiful, blond, wealthy Willa Masterson left White Pine, tires squealing, for New York City, without looking back.  Since then, she's enjoyed everything New York has to offer a girl with unlimited resources. But the recent discovery that her boyfriend has squandered her inheritance in a Ponzi scheme sends Willa back to White Pine, to the only asset she has left: her childhood home, which she plans to turn into a high-end B&B.

Enter Burk Olmstead, the best contractor in town-and Willa's high school boyfriend, whom she left high and dry when she moved away.  Hard-working, hard-bodied Burk, who has been taking care of Willa's childhood home for years, also has plans for the beautiful old house-plans that conflict with Willa's B&B.  When these two argue, sparks fly and reignite the fire that's always been between them...but it may take the whole town of White Pine to get these two lovers back together for good.

Review:

Okay, so I'm going to dive right in and start by talking about the characters. Willa certainly got screwed over but I have to say I didn't have a whole lot of sympathy for her until I got farther into the book and could see how she was trying to change or make up for her past. She certainly came across as the spoiled rich witch at first and I'm glad that I stuck with her and saw her grow throughout the book. And that applies to Burk as well. Except he obviously wasn't the rich witch. But he did have his flaws and it took me a bit to warm up to him. Although I did so more quickly than with Willa.

A Kiss to Build  A Dream On was a nice slow-down from the romantic suspense I've been reading lately and it was something different from what I'd been reading recently. I did really enjoy how things were happening but it wasn't at a crazy pace or things blowing up or whatnot. It was a nice break from that all.

It certainly was a fun ride, although at times it was a difficult one. I did enjoy the writing style and there weren't any errors or at least not glaringly obvious ones. Why not give this book a chance?

Face-Off by Stacy Juba

(Image found on Goodreads)

T.J. and Brad are twins, both enjoy playing hockey. But when T.J. has to change schools, their already strained relationship threatens to break. But can they find that together they're stronger? Find the official description on Goodreads.

The thing I really enjoyed about this book is that it wasn't my typical hockey book. Most times I go for hockey romances but this was different. It was intriguing to see a book that does involve hockey without the romance. But at the same time I enjoyed the switch up. It's always nice to take a step outside your comfort zone.

The relationship between the two main characters was strained and awkward. Certainly not the idea you get when you think of twins. It was amusing as well as frustrating to see how their relationship was.

And then just going through and seeing how the two change and grow a bit in their relationships and whatnot was great. It was marvelous to see.

Overall I did enjoy this book although I found that you didn't get a lot of the thoughts that you did read in other books. There was a lot of dialogue more so than other books. Which isn't a bad thing, just different.

I did enjoy the uniqueness of Face-Off and suggest it to anyone who has teenagers or whatnot.

Anna by Meghan Riley

(Image found on Goodreads)
"Sometimes I imagined leaving for a bigger city where there wasn’t such a strict social hierarchy or that stifling feeling of being trapped in a predetermined role, a place where I could reinvent myself and meet people with interests similar to my own." -Meghan Riley, Anna

Anna has a lot of choices to make. This is her senior year of high school and just like many of her peers she's trying to decide where to go to school, how to get there and much more. But unlike the rest of the students at her high school, Anna has much more to worry about. Spots on Anna's arms start causing problems in Anna's life and yet can she accept the explanation that comes with them? Or will she find herself lost forever. Find the official description on Goodreads.

Throughout Anna, it seems as if it's just a normal high school and Anna is a normal girl, except for a few odd incidents. I have to admit that I was looking for a bit more excitement. There was some but it seemed few and far between. I'm not saying the book wasn't good, just that at times it didn't capture my attention fully.

The writing was really good, and strong, including descriptions. Meghan Riley has created an strong book, and if you have any interest in Astrology than it would most definitely be your type of book as Anna is very interested in Astrology.

Throughout Anna, it seemed that for every answer I got to a question, a hundred more questions popped up. Which was slightly frustrating to say the least but it also keeps readers reading, to find the answers to their questions.

Anna is the first in the Starseed Series, and was released on August 29th, 2013.

I Know Lucy by Melissa Pearl

(Image found on Goodreads)
"I think sometimes you just see a girl and something about her captures you." -Melissa Pearl, I Know Lucy

Lucy has been on the run for five years now, constantly hiding from a corrupt official who killed both her parents in front of her own eyes. But when she finds herself at Monte Vista High, she discovers that she's found the one person she doesn't want to and can't leave; Zach. But when he starts digging into her past with the help of his reporter uncle, will she be able to fight her way away from Zach? Or will he be the one thing she can't leave behind no matter what happens to her? Find the official description on Goodreads.

The first thing I'm going to point out is that the author did something different with her writing. Many of the chapters are from first person perspective.

We Are The Goldens by Dana Reinhardt

(Image found on Goodreads)

Nell and Layla, the two Golden sisters, close as can be. But as Nell enters high school, they start drifting apart. Layla has a secret, one that will destroy reputations. Nell knows but doesn't want to tell because they've always stuck together. But Nell knows its wrong and she can't help but feel like she needs to do something with it. There are so many things going on now that Nell's a high school student and she's feeling the pressure. But will she be able to tell someone about Layla or will it all just blow up? Find the official description on Goodreads.

We Are The Goldens is told from Nell's point of view. I don't usually enjoy first person perspective but in this book it really worked well. You were easily able to see Nell's perspective and develop your own opinions. Not to mention you saw the conflicts she was experiencing. The way it was told, it seemed as if it was a letter, one that you just happened to stumble upon one day. Then there's the fact that the way that Nell adds in certain comments to her telling of events makes you jump to conclusions about the ending.
